So glad you're getting into the golden age of artist-driven Hollywood filmmaking that came in the wake of The Godfather. If you look at the IMDB Top 250 you'll see a lot of them, like Taxi Driver and Amadeus and The Deer Hunter. They're all emblematic of that time. But the one you'll find on there that's considered the biggest hidden gem in all of film is called Once Upon A Time In America. A megabudget Hollywood gangster epic made by the same director as The Good The Bad And The Ugly and starring De Niro at the height of his fame that no one in the mainstream ever heard of because the studio executives messed up the theatrical release. Now it's worshipped by every movie buff in the world, there isn't a greatest films of all time list that it isn't on, and there's only one reaction by a really small channel for it on all of Youtube.

The author, Ken Kesey, is a very interesting character in his own right. He was one of the leaders of the Merry Pranksters, whose LSD fueled exploits are chronicled in Tom Wolfe’s book, “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.” Another movie you should consider reacting to is “Mississippi Burning,” a great movie about the struggle for civil rights in America.
