Asteroid defenses- that's a no. Just started doing some experiments working on nudging an asteroid away from hitting Earth (just earlier this year for one in fact). The test did work, but was on a very small rock and we wouldn't be able to do even that on short notice. Would need a LOT more warning and the bigger the rock the longer warning we would need since the plan they tested just slightly changes the orbit path. Good news at least is we do spend a lot of time looking for potentially dangerous asteroids that could hit, we would -probably- have way more warning for anything even close to civilization ending.
