About Patreon's new user fees
Added 2017-12-09 18:29:14 +0000 UTCRecently Patreon added new fees to try and squeeze a bit more money out of you guys, probably in an attempt to attract a buyer for the company. I really suggest you guys look over the changes because you are the ones who will be directly affected.
I don't think these new fees are fair and I understand why some of you guys are reducing your participation. In the interest of trying to keep things as fair to you guys as I can, I am trying to think of ways in which I give you a bit more more bang for your buck to compensate for the increased fees.
I want to hear what thoughts or concerns you guys might have, and if you have any ideas for potential new backer rewards and/or incentives. I have an idea or two but I want to hear from you guys, since you are the ones who Patreon has decided to dump these new expenses onto. Even if you are fine with me making no changes at all I'd still appreciate hearing from you.

I can certainly see this causing all sorts of issues for those committing to smaller pledges to multiple creators. Annoyingly if you're a European backer these fees will also be subject to the VAT added to your pledge so that's another little increase to look forward to. It's one hell of a backward step for a service provider though. Could you imagine the fallout if someone like PayPal decided that its going to take cuts from both ends of a transaction or if a retail store chain decided to pass on your credit/debit card processing fee onto your purchases? I really hope it doesn't have too much of an impact on you and the few other artists I support on here. If you're just going to end up with a bigger chunk of a smaller pie then it's a complete disaster for all parties involved. In terms of trying to add further value to those that are pledging: please don't work yourself into the ground. You already offer a generous selection of bonuses for your reward tiers as they are.

2017-12-09 20:36:03 +0000 UTCI don't really care too much about the billing changes. I'm only paying an extra $3 a month, which isn't that bad. However, I can't say the same thing for the one dollar pledges. I understand if people need to drop a few patrons because of several one dollar donations. It would make sense to drop a few people because all of a sudden like you are paying $30 instead of the 25 you are used to. And that irks me a little bit. But, from my personal end, nothing is changing I'm still going to throw money at you, because I feel like it. Not for the rewards. Although, the rewards are a bonus, they should not be the primary reason for contributing.
