This was the episode that drove home the tonal disparity between the first show and this one. The stark contrast in tone during Gaara’s existential crisis in his final moments where he wonders who he was and what it was all for was so impactful and striking that I found myself actually wondering if this was the same IP. This is the same story where Ino stood under Naruto’s piss stream thinking it was rain? The same story where Kakashi molested a child in the first few chapters? The same story where Jiraiya lusted over a child posing as a woman? This serves as an excellent first cours for the kind of motifs Shippuden aims to tackle. It is a much more mature and nuanced story than the first part, and I think you guys will find it much more engaging narratively as such Also RIP, reading the episode title like it was a subtitle be like lmao
