Thank you so much for the comment, the kind words, and helping to explain the timeline! Yessss! Also, the whiplash of this episode was REAL. Seriously. I felt so much for Yaga and Panda this episode.
Yes, yes, the Naruto and Sasuka parallels! I love that light and shadow symbolism as welllll – also, bless Yuuji’s pure non-lying heart! Maybe that’s why Sukuna made it to where he doesn’t know when he takes over, so Yuuji can’t lie about it! 😛
“Jesus Christ, who is that?” XD Trukk will be so mad you inflated Gojo’s ego up so much! 😛
The animation was gorgeous and YES, Mappa went so hard all over it this week!
The scene with Haraki and Yuuji – the ONE SHOT Rotoscope is so crazy…that’s so cool about the director of the anime and the episode playing them!
Thank you again and for the compliment! I’m honestly happy that Ranta won the poll! 😀

What a ride! Yes, whiplash, but at least it was QUALITY whiplash, hahaha!
Yaga choosing to use his power for good is so beautiful and he really made me love him as a character as well. I can SO see the FMA parallels as well! But seriously, Gege, you couldn’t let Panda show up…a few minutes sooner?!
I could watch Megumi and Yuuji on their adventures all day long! At least Panda vs. Yuuji was some levity amidst the sadness of the episode otherwise!
Hakari really fascinates me! I’m excited to see what he’s going to do in all this! Hey, if Yuuji can win over Todo, maybe this will be similar? *sweats* I love the way Mappa animated their “meeting,” though! The rotoscoping is wild!
Megumi is seriously Yuuji’s shadow, which works so well with his technique, honestly. My shipper heart is all for them, honestly!
The moderator noted the Death Toll from Shibuya and of KNOWN people (not counting the masses) it was around 19…so yeah…terrifying. Thank you for the comment!

That…in itself…is a REALLY eerie thought – for some, one that helps them grieve, but the idea of just tons of cursed corpses echoing the dead is…very eerie, indeed. Thank you for the comment!

MAPPA making sure to check with Gege where to put the OP for maximum heartbreak? Check! Thanks for the comment!

About Megumi disclosing the information to Yuuji on season 1 , this is what I think : remember when Yuji ran straight to go to the hospital, the moment he passed by Megumi, the latter sensed a huge amount of cursed energy related to the cursed object aka Sukuna’s finger. Imo Megumi felt that being in. Contact with a grade S cursed object put Yuji’s life in danger and I guess he was also touched by itadori’s resilience and words right after his grandpa died . So he decided to trust him to save his life .
So it’s a breach of law 8 but again it was for personal reasons as he told Gojo later on to save Yuji

Well, this episode was a roller coaster.
I can see what you mean when you say this episode had passing issues, because going from the terribly sad death of Yaga to the almost goofy infiltration of Yuuji and Megumi into Hakari's fight club gave me whiplash.
Yaga, who has the power to create an army to take down the Higher Ups, but instead chooses to help a grieving mother reunite with her son - or at the very least, to deal with her grief and help be more alive - is precious to me. I liked his character before this arc, because he protects the kids and isn't just a puppet of the Higher Ups (pun intended) but this little arc really made me love his character a lot.
Through that whole beginning there's one thing I couldn't stop thinking about, and that is how Yaga having the ability to create an army of cursed dolls, and Gaguganchi being worried about that reminded me a lot of FMA xD I know it's a completely different situation, but I couldn't stop thinking about that parallel.
Panda arriving too late to help Yaga is so cruel of Gege, really.
And then we have Yuuji and Megumi living their best Naruto and Sasuke impersonation dreams, lol. Yeah, the second Yuuji put on that orange shirt I couldn't unsee it.
I laughed so hard at Yuuji and Panda's fight. With the little text telling us that Panda was pretending to get hit by Yuuji in the most dramatic way possible. It was so much fun.
We have met Hikari now! Though, it didn't seem to go to well, this first meeting.
Megumi just being in the shadows lurking to see what was going on with Yuuji is so cool. We saw Megumi learn that he could do more with his shadows all the way back in season 1, I think, when he started storing weapons in his shadows, and seeing that now he has grown in power enough that he, himself can hide in his shadow is so cool. No wonder the Ze'nin wanted to make him the head of the clan.
I love the way that Megumi knows Yuuji, knowing that it isn't that Yuuji is a bad liar, per se, but that he hates liying in principal alone and doesn't see a point for it. Yes, my shipper heart lept at that.
That last scene with Hakari and Yuuji meeting for the first time was so cool. The way it was shot was really interesting and kept me on my toes. And the way it goes so side ways at the end, and Yuuji starts to just frantically dodge Hakari made me laugh so much. Fun fact I learned about it, it was apparently recorded with rotoscope, which does explain why it looked so fluid.
Something that I always think about is how Yaga's death, to me feels like an extension, a continuation of the cost that the Shibuya Incident had. Yaga is killed because the Higher Ups used the Shibuya Incident as an excuse, yeah, but I think he can be added to the death toll from it, and what a big death toll that has become now, hasn't it?

Ranta cosplay is awesome!
Yaga's Cursed Dolls in the forest, especially with the doorway in the tree, gives me such a Studio Ghibli feel.
Gakuganji asking Yaga why he didn't disclose the information on how he creates his autonomous Cursed Dolls to me felt like he was asking "Why did you leave me no choice but to kill you?" And then Yaga telling him he's leaving it as a curse on Gakuganji feels like the best (and worst) way for Yaga to win in death 😭 Though this conversation also makes me think back to Nanami's delirious conversation he had with Haibara before saying his "goodbye" to Itadori...Akutami why you gotta hurt us like this?! And honestly when watching this episode I was doing fine until Panda cried. Had to pause because it made tears well up in my own eyes.
Choosing that specific shade of orange for Itadori and Fushiguro remaining in black just had to be on purpose to make us think of Naruto and Sasuke 😆
I mentioned in the Discord as I was watching the episode that the moment of Fushiguro and Itadori entering the carpark is such a great way to show their personalities/differing ways they approach things. Fushiguro tries not to go against the rules and finds a way around the barrier, whereas Itadori uses his innate strength to be able to keep walking a straight path. And then it was further proved when Itadori later says they'll resort to force if needs be. And when Fushiguro and Panda are talking about Itadori's inability to lie, it again feels like they're highlighting Itadori's straightforward mindset by saying that he struggles to see subterfuge as an option he could use.
Panda may have been right in Season 2 about Itadori having pheromones 😆 First Todo, then Choso, and then I was waiting for Hakari to be the same with how quickly he was willing to meet Itadori...and maybe he still will be after Itadori manages to explain his side of things. I mean it took some fighting before Todo and Choso were proclaiming Itadori as their brother, so maybe after Hakari gets it all out of his system we'll get the same here 🤣
100% agreed on the need for Akutami to quit killing people 🙇♀😭 Like hitting us suddenly with Yaga backstory, his death, and then Panda's reaction? Right off of us just being hit with Mai's death and Maki and Momo's grief over it? Yeah, not fair Akutami! Not fair at all 💔
For the Article 8 that Fushiguro quoted, the first thing I thought of was actually episode 1 of Season 1. Fushiguro revealed the truth about jujutsu society to Itadori while on the hunt for Sukuna's finger. Technically wouldn't that mean this is a law Fushiguro broke as, while it was imperative to retrieve the finger, it could be argued that Itadori didn't need to be told all that information (at least at that moment in the hospital; later on in the school would probably have been more acceptable so that Itadori understood the risks better).
Not bringing Tian Guan Ci Fu into the messiness of shipping Fushiguro with both Sukuna and Itadori 🤣🤣🤣
The doors from Hakari's technique look like Japanese train doors. And the specific shade of green makes me think of the Yamanote JR Line trains in Tokyo, which was one of the main trainlines I use any time I'm in Tokyo 😂

Also want to add I felt more for Yaga's death then I did for Mai's death which I think is more of a personal issue but hey it's something that added to me liking episode 5 more.

Alright, I'm going to make a very controversial statement: I prefer this episode to episode 4. First of all, one of my main issues with episode 4 was the music, which, in my opinion, really ruined a lot of scenes. That moment with Yuji and Hakari conversing was perfection. I adore the realistic animation; it was chief kiss💋. I adore the subtle way that each tiny movement resembled how actual people shift and move as they converse. Characters in anime frequently just stand motionless while speaking, so I love that Mappa, particularly this season, is going over and above to make everything really stylized.

Hey Math
Is it possible to edit the later paragraph about the specifics of Maki inside the Cullen Games.
I think that is something that will be discussed Ince Maki joined, so no need to disclose it now because as far as we are aware no one of the crew is inside a colony for now and this no points are to be gained from any kill before that.

Thinking about it more, I think Yaga saying his secret was a curse is even more fitting, since I don't think it would even give what the higher-ups want anyway. A specialist has to spend months of hard work to create the weird amalgamation of three presumably human souls in a cursed corpse, and what you get in the end is basically a person, free will and all, not a puppet soldier. It makes me wonder what would actually happen if this method spread. I have the feeling people would use it more for what Kusaskabe wanted and you would end up with 100s of cursed corpses full of the echoes of the mourned.

There's a surprising amount of people defending the idea that Maki killed everyone in the clan, including the servants, children, women etc...
But this is literally supported neither by the material nor the narrative.
That doesn't mean what Maki did is 100% moral (duh), there were most likely younger men part of the Kukuru unit, perhaps even teenagers given that Maki used to be part of it.
Ranta himself must've been around 20 at most, and seemed pretty oblivious of the larger situation regarding Maki.
But saying that Maki "massacred children" is simply untrue and kinda ridiculous.

Great reaction and discussion as always
About the Timeline , someone in the Discord asked about the timeline of the opening sequence and after reading a lot of discussions online here is the explanation I found that makes the most sense to me
- first we go to the past and see Panda as a baby signaling that Yaga just created him
- then we see Yaga in the prison cell. In my and a lot of people opinion, this is in the past still , precisely when Yaga just created Panda and the higher ups are trying to have the secret of the autonomous corpses. It’s based on Gakuganji saying: the higher ups are discussing a life sentence imprisonment for him !! which contradicts with his death sentence in the present. I think Gojo intervened (yet again) to free him at the time. (This is why he said : you ve become bold since Saturo got sealed later in the episode)
- then we come back at the present with Yaga on the run still, paying farewell to him children (in a very Winny the Pouh mixed with the Shire aesthetics)
- Kusakabe frees Panda so he is not used as bait (with the flashback in a recent past about Takeru and his sister)
- and we end the opening sequence, with Yaga being intercepted and killed
This episode was a bit of a whiplash, pacing wise .. not even giving us a second to mourn Yaga ..
I loved the light and shadows symbolism of Naruto and Susuke .. ahem .. I mean Yuuji and Megumi
Also Yuuji can’t lie to save his life 🥹
That moment he screwed up was when he said : Jesus Christ, who is that? 😂😂
The animation tho this episode? Absolutely wild
Mappa didn’t have to go this hard but chose to do anyway
The last scene between Hakari and Yuuji, made my jaw drop on the floor .. completely on shot rotoscoped, with the anime director and this episode ´s director playing Yuuji and Hakari..,
Thank you for a great moment of enjoyment and fun.. the Ranta cosplay was amazing ❤️
