WORD OF HONOR: Episode 35 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Yes, knowing what we know now, Master Mo kept consistent the entire time. I think it was just production’s execution of the scene as a whole, because it feels better in the breakdown - again, I know the budget and time cuts factored into that. Everything about killing off GX and CWN was HEARTBREAKING - I’m still not over it! I get why it happened; I was just mad in the episode that they were gone! But yes, thanks for your perspective! GuXiang was really in her highest level in this episode - I felt all her emotion throughout this and her actress did AMAZING. And yessss, ZZS’s sword is so good! Her and Gong Jun’s acting were sooooo good! I felt so hard for both of their characters. I agree with you in that conversation between Master Mo and WKX - I think I talked about that in the discussion at some point, but it’s okay if it was missed; but I agreed with you, even if it was drama and misunderstanding when we the audience are like, “But!” XD Wen KeXing looked fantastic in his battle scenes and the cinematography, especially when he’s holding Gu Xiang. It just really hit me that he broke ZZS’s sword to stab him! Yeah, peak Ghost Valley Chief energy! I loved how WKX was so calm and cool during his confrontation with the Scorpion King. I definitely agree on SK’s take on WKX in that scene under the tree as well! And that height difference, yes!! Yes, I agree that he probably thought she’d not be there - I’ll talk about that in the intro for Episode 36-37. And yes, that scene where WKX realizes all too late GX’s words - ugh, I feel for him and her in that moment! And yeah the foreshadowing!!! UGH. At least we get that commercial with them! I feel for the lack of episodes at this point, because I think that would have helped in the moment! But yeah, I really adore Word of Honor and am excited to read the novel and hoenstly? Compared to The Untamed, the lack of censorship has been INCREDIBLE! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

I just love the Lord Seventh and Great Shaman dynamic so much! I agree with your take on them here 100%! 😀 I hate that LQQ and the TCG both died; they saved each other and then had to suffer together - the DOOMED YURI of it all! I really liked both of them and it’s so sad in ONE episode, we lose three of the stronger female characters in the shows! I definitely understand - I watched a lot of friends date a lot of …not great prospects. So the Alluring Ghost and TragiComic Ghost’s positions were very relatable! I agree about resonating! I’m glad, like you said that the TragiComic ghost at least didn’t die not know who/where she was, though, at the end! At least there’s that! Thank you so much for the comment!

Honestly, Master Mo was a hater from day one, so his actions felt very on-brand. He clearly wasn’t happy with Ye Bai Yi’s choice not to wipe out Ghost Valley, and his disciple marrying into it on top of that, makes sense he’d take matters into his own hands. Even the “gifts” worked as the perfect cover, hiding weapons in plain sight. The look between Gu Xiang and Cao Wei Ning as his neck is snapped is absolutely heartbreaking. Master Mo has been a bitch from the start, and he was never truly good, as seen when he colluded with Zhao Jing. Killing off these two wholesome characters is just insane. Recaps are usually tedious, but here they do tug at your heart, showing how long ago it all happened and making their innocence and carefree moments even more heartbreaking. So I totally get it if you don’t like it, and that is fine, but I just wanted to share my perspective :P I loved Gu Xiang’s badass charge. She’s furious, blinded by heartbreak, and Master Mo, as much of an asshole as he is, is a skilled fighter. Knocking off her wedding crown perfectly symbolizes his hatred, and the recaps as she runs flooding her mind with memories of her love. Her eyes showing pure desperation and rage... Sidenote, Zi Shu’s sword throw was unbelievably cool, I couldn’t help but just go “damn!” in the middle of all the chaos. His sword style is easily one of the coolest I’ve seen. I think there’s no worse punishment for Zhao Jing than what he’s going through. Watching Scorpion King live out all the power moves he wanted, while he’s stuck hating life. I think Scorpion King always felt like a real threat when Zhao Jing wasn’t around—stone-cold killer vibes—but the second Zhao Jing showed up, he turned into this innocent baby. I think part of that was real, since he wanted Zhao Jing to spoil him, but now that Zhao Jing can’t talk and the Scorpion King has lost some respect for him, his darker, more sinister side comes out. We just didn’t see enough of him solo toward the end to remember how fierce he really is. About Wen Kexing’s conversation with Master Mo, I think two things matter here. First, does Wen Kexing even know Master Mo was working with the Scorpion King? Probably not, so from his view it made sense to claim he had the key to trade for Gu Xiang’s life. Second, he’s absolutely terrified in that moment. He just wants to save her, so he tells Master Mo what he wants to hear. Honestly, I thought it was smart. Many shows go with the “But I don’t have it!” line, and the get's killed. Wen Kexing playing along felt like the reasonable choice. Major shoutout to Gu Xiang’s actress. She made her last moments so powerful, equal parts badass and devastating. I’m glad the show gave her such a proper ending, especially since she was one who really pushed for this series to happen. Her death was given the time it deserved, showing her desperation, love, and unshakable loyalty. And Wen Kexing carrying her to Cao Wei Ning, placing the crown back on, and pulling the red drape over them… such a stunningly beautiful yet gut-wrenching scene. That scene of Wen Kexing mowing down the drug men was pure badass. And yeah, we talked before about how strange it felt seeing him with a sword, so I loved that he switched back to the fan, his true trademark. Him choosing to take the hit straight on felt deliberate too—he knew Master Mo was strong, and that landing a proper strike might cost him his life. So he let himself get stabbed to make sure he could avenge Gu Xiang even if it kills him. Breaking the sword to stab Master Mo and then strangling him is such peak Ghost Valley Chief energy. Wen Kexing looks so effortlessly cool when Scorpion King walks in. Just lying there like the diva he is, totally unbothered. And I love the callback with him copying Zi Shu from the start, such a nice touch. And Zi Shu showing like “don’t touch my man,” looking absolutely stunning and bringing this reassuring presence. Meanwhile Scorpion King totally underestimates how willing Zi Shu is to sacrifice himself, and you can almost see him thinking, “damn, didn’t realize this guy was that suicidal,” and quickly switching tactics. When Scorpion King says “so boring,” there’s this sad, almost longing look in his eyes. It feels like he’s seeing what he always wished he could’ve had with Zhao Jing—two people willing to die for each other to the very end. But since that was never their reality, it comes off more like he’s projecting his own pain onto Zi Shu and Wen Kexing. I’m glad I’m not the only one distracted by the hand-to-head ratio when Wen Kexing reaches for Zi Shu. His hand look so tiny compared to his head that it’s almost comical, and I had to really fight not to focus on it, haha! Luckily, the actors are so good that it doesn’t ruin the moment. I think Scorpion King’s shock at Alluring Ghost’s death comes from expecting her to have escaped with Yu Qiufeng, since he told her to leave when he gave the antidote. He clearly related to her, so didn’t want her to die. Such a heartbreaking scene…Wen Kexing barely registering Gu Xiang’s words about her parents as his wounds weigh him down, only realizing as she walks away. And Zi Shu quickly wiping away the tear, looking absolutely stunning in those black robes. And little Cheng Ling, teary-eyed, has already lost so much—family, Gu Xiang, and now possibly Zi Shu. His wish to trade his life for Zi Shu’s… absolutely heart-wrenching. That foreshadowing for Cao Wei Ning and Gu Xiang was insane. Back then, we’d never have guessed. It just came across as sweet and caring. But looking back, the hints were there all along. They planted it so early that you’d never suspect, which makes the reveal hit even harder. No worries about ranting. I totally get your frustrations. Honestly, we’re here to see your reaction, and that’s what makes it fun. I also agree about them not showing Zhou Zi Shu in that moment. It really makes you wonder why he isn’t helping. Even a quick shot of him trying but being held back by the drug men would’ve made it so much better. All I can say is that there are far too few BL dramas—especially historical ones—that manage to give us a solid plot, amazing characters, and such a well-built world. So I can’t help but love this series so much. Also, when it comes to the love between the main characters, I’m honestly grateful for how much the show gave us despite all the censorship.

I agree with your take on Lord Seventh and The Great Shaman's dynamic lol The Shaman does seem to be the more active one with how he knocked out Wen Kexing earlier and fought for Lord Seventh and Chengling, Lord Seventh seems more like man of heart than a man of arms with how he holds onto the Shaman's arm and consoles him at the last scene of this episode it makes me wonder if Lord Seventh is like, a pillow princess that'll wait for the shaman to take action lmaooooo It's such a pity about Liu Qianqiao and Tragicomic Ghost. They saved each other throughout their lives and were going to retire together, but in their final moments Tragicomic Ghost could only watch Qianqiao die only before dying herself. Is this doomed yuri 😭 Qianqiao became one of my favorite characters and I think it's because I know a lot of young women like her. I'm someone in her twenties and I have a lot of girl friends that're dating and getting boyfriends, it doesn't always end well, and I really feel for them. So I resonated with Qianqiao's story arc of her ex-lover coming back to haunt her and realizing that she'd rather spend her life with a woman who has always been her ally. Even though she wasn't able to fully live out that end, I'm glad she was able to gain clarity in the end.
