STEINS;GATE: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*HOMEOSTATIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

If the thumbnail wasn't an indication -- Okarin is...starting to scare me. Not that HE realizes that he's getting more and more scary, but things are ESCALATING in this episode and my mind was scatter-brained throughout as I try to wade through the madness and realize that things are starting to snowball...and I don't think Okarin realizes how insane this is all about to get...

STEINS;GATE: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Hey James! Thanks for the comment! I'm a blind reactor, so like I say in my intros, I want to find out from the show naturally without comments telling me. I'll get there, don't worry! Thanks for joining patreon and I hope you like the reactions!

I just joined your Patreon so I'm not sure if you've already talked about this, but the idea of "world lines" is based on the Many Worlds-Interpretation from quantum mechanics (it's been explained by this point in the visual novel). There is more to say on this later on in the season.

Right?! PAGERS - a name I didn’t think I would hear again for a while! But like you said, if we’re bringing the ISBN 5100 back, why not pagers?! That is a good question on how the mom knew the pager number, but yeah, LUCKY is the name of the game, here! Maybe her phone number is similar to the pager number? But yes, important questions to ask amidst all the quantum physics! The organization cannot distract us from the TRUE questions! That is true - Okarin thinks it’s impossible - it’s still scary that he’s giving into everyone’s request because what if others say, “Well you did it for them?” It’s a slippery slope indeed. As for the veggies vs. Meat argument, I DID find an article about that..I’ll talk about it in a future intro (episode 10)! And yessss, now that we know Okarin is in his late teens, it makes a lot of sense! That level of reckless and caution simultaneously. And yes, I agree with your description on him! It does work well for him! Thank you for the comment! I can’t wait for the next episode!

Gosh, what a blast from the past bringing pagers back into relevance, but I guess this show is given to bring some old tech back into relevance, if the ISBN 100 is anything to go by. You know what? I do wonder how Ruka found out about if her mom had a pager; how did that conversation go? And, even more important, how on earth does her mom remember her pager number? I can't remember the phone number I had 10 years ago, and I don't have it saved anywhere, so it truly is a miracle that Ruka was able to get that information xD Yes, this is something I spent time thinking about in the midst of all the quantum physics in this show. To be fair to Okarin, he seems to only agree to Ruka's request because he thinks that it's an impossble request, quite rightfully so; and that's also the only reason he ropes Daru and Kurisu into it, because there's no way that eating more veggies will change a baby's gender. I do have to wonder if that, eating more veggies making a baby a girl, is some kind of Japanese folklore tale, which would be super interesting, because that's not one I've heard before and Ruka seems to genuinely consider it. That, or Ruka is just really sheltered, which seems plausible enough with her general demeanor. Okarin being in his late teens, early twenties makes so much sense with how he acts, to be honest. Not only his dramatics, which require a certain energy, I think, that youth will help with xD but also because he seems to teeter between recklessness and caution. He seems to just about catch the implications of his actions, the bigger ramifications of the things he is doing; and yet, at the same time, he proceeds and acts, in all honesty, a bit brashly and foolishly. I love it, I think it works very well for his character as a small worlbuilding detail.
