Dan Da Dan Season 2: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*MUSICALLY INCLINED HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Oohhh, the Rule of 8 does not let us down and Dan Da Dan continues to be "Bonkers for the Best Reason!" I LOVED the showdown between these ghostly musicians, Aira, and Okarun!

Everything about this episode was top form, and while I cannot stand Evil Eye at this point -- I'm so glad Okarun is growing and stepping up to the challenge of taking him on one-on-one!

Right?! I just love this episode and what we got out of in this - the manga I’m sure is amazing, but seeing it animated like this? Awesome! I love it! SUCH a great moment for the series so far! And I love that Okarun lets his punk rock side out - if only Momo could seeee! No, that’s very fair about EE not being compared to TG – but I think, as I’ve noted with other people and their comments, it’s more in my discussion about the maturity of the yokai with TG and Silky - but maybe I talk more about that in Episode 9; I can’t remember, to be honest! *sweats* I do really love that Okarun is addressing everything head on as well and standing up for Momo, even if she was going to just overlook the whole thing. That IS a really cool note about the Episode 8’s lining up! Love that! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

I can see what you mean about it was because they were fought and won battles against - I guess (and I’ll talk about this in episode 9 if not here) because Turbo Granny and Silky were more mature spirits and able to process the kindness of Aira and Okarun, but EE isn’t processing that kindness from Jiji and the mangaka’s excuse is “he’s just a baby” is…just…well…I’ve talked about it a lot in these discussions. But those are just my opinions. I hope that makes sense. I think I talked about that in the discussion for one of those episodes! 🙂Again, I get what everyone in the comments are saying - I just have my own interpretation and opinions and I hope you all can understand that all of our thoughts are valid. ^^ Thanks for the comment!

This episode is one of those that make me think that watching the anime is so much more fun than reading the manga could ever be. That fight was so much fun, so dynamic and enhanced by the sound of it all, that it makes me think that I really couldn't read this manga, and I'll rather just wait for it to be animated. Okarun thinking of the rock music to find his own rhythm, and thus battlng classical music with rock was a really clever way to introduce that trope. You know, I was thinking, that in some ways Evil Eye can be compared to Turbo Granny, because Turbo Granny, as she expresses in this episode, never truly stopped wanting to kill everyone and was only stopped because they, accidentally, stripped her of her powers and bound her to the lucky cat, much like Evil Eye continues to want to murder everyone even though he has seen Jiji's kindness. Except, Turbo Granny says that, but her actions speak a bit of a different story; she has consistently helped in subtle ways, and you get the overall feeling that she is just a Tsundere who will not admit to now liking everyone. Evil Eye, on the other hand, still very much tried to kill Momo just last episode. So, while they share certain similarities, their very different approaches are quite a lot of fun. I'm so happy that Okarun is addressing the situation so head on, calling everything as it is, and decided to teach Evil Eye a lesson. Okarun saying that Evil Eye had tried to assault Momo was nice, because at least he understands that. Fun little detail I noticed, it was in episode 8 of Season 1 that we had Okarun and Aira teaming up to fight, later being joined by Momo in episode 9; and now, it is again episode 8 when we see them teaming up to battle some foes. I don't know it that was planned, probably not, but it is a fun little coincidence.

Your frustrations with Evil Eye are reasonable given everything that has happened to our characters. I do think some nuances are being overlooked tho. First of all none of the yokai that we are now friends with in the series or has been reformed got there out of simply empathy and compassion. It was when their butts were kicked and they were at a disadvantage that both Acrobatic Silky and Turbo Granny accepted the kindness of Okarun Aira and Momo. Acrobatic Silky was dying and then felt regret of her treatment of Aira and Turbo Granny lost her powers and decided it would be beneficial to help find the golden ball and from there she has built a genuine friendship with the group. Two is that the only control Jiji has over Evil Eye is using the chi training to suppress his quick and violent transformations which he has steadily been training but is nowhere at the level to completely overwhelm Evil Eyeso yes while it would be great if Jiji could help himself in this matter as far as we know he cannot communicate with Evil Eye or control him so someone would need to suppress Evil Eye externally in this case it would be Okarun. My third and final point is that unlike Acrobatic Silky and Turbo Granny Evil Eye is not only a kid in terms of who he was before becoming a spirit but he is a baby youkai which we learned from Turbo Granny when she gave lore on Evil Eye so his mental development and even control are basic and also unstable he's basically a child throwing a tantrum because he hasnt been taught that life has nuances so yes it does feel like he's getting the slap on the wrist treatment because he is a child that is out of control. I'm not saying Evil Eye should be excused for his actions but as Okarun is suggesting he needs to be put in his place so he can learn.
