CHERRY MAGIC: Manga Volumes 1-7 Reaction & Review!

*EXTRA SCENIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

It's time to start our monthly reaction to the manga! After consulting with the mods, I've decided to recap and review Volumes 1-6 of the manga with you all -- which cover roughly episodes 1-10 of the anime....and THEN dive in with a live reaction to Volume 7!

The reason? Well, there's some...ahem...extra content from the anime that we need to talk about! I hope you all enjoy and have fun talking about this one!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

CHERRY MAGIC: Manga Volumes 1-7 Reaction & Review!

Comments

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I really am excited to read the manga and keep the Cherry Magic train going! I’m glad there was that ONE panel of Adachi soliciting, because it doesn’t fit his personality AT ALL - also, I was pretty hot and heavy on that ‘parental advisory’ rant. Tis another video that needs to be done at some point… Adachi really is an angel in comparison in this series haha!! I’m so glad some of you have noted that about TSHD - it’s an AMAZING series and I’m honestly floored with some of the discourse – now, some of it is amazing and there are folks that agree with you and I on there and others that make me want to pull my hair out…but I hate that because the series itself is SO GOOD. I really hope you get a chance to check out the series after it’s done airing and I that you’ve had those experiences with homophobic semantics – the “hetero assimilationist nonsense” really could get me going too so ANYWAY!~ I’m super happy the series went beyond that one point with Adachi losing his powers - there’s so much more you could explore with their relationship beyond that, so I’m glad that’s what ended up happening! And I’m greedy and just want more with them! 😛 I cannot wait to see what we will get with Adachi’s family in all this - it’s surely going to be a fun ride! Thank you so much for the comment!

Yesssss, everything about “respect and educating yourself about other people and their situations.” PREACH! YES! I 100% agree with you on that account! And yes, I was pretty heated about their comment with yaoi just being women fetishizing mlm relationships - there’s sooooo much more to it than just that. The comment was really forgetting to ask why a woman would write this genre and missing a lot of nuance and complexities that are involved with the genre itself. I would point them to the selections from this year’s Januyaoi - there were a lot that were REALLY dark, deep, and not very “spicy” at all to say the least, but were gut-wrenching and quality works. And YES, I am not familiar with the bara genre, but I know that it exists – but yeah, I was really worked up over that comment and so I’m glad someone else was as passionate as I was! 🙂 Yeah, the misogyny angle is something that I really want to talk about at some point, but like you said, “a talk for another time!” I appreciate your solidarity and kind and considerate words, here, though! Thank you for empathizing and supporting!

Loved the review and discussion! Really glad you decided to pick up the manga and happy to follow this at whatever pace suits you. 🥰 Various moments I loved: Completely agree with the ‘parental advisory’ rant Sweetest bean!Adachi soliciting?! I somehow completely erased this from my memory. 😆 The Square Enix editors being so excited about the manga potentially getting spicy The little moment on Valentine’s Day (Vol 1) with poor Kurosawa’s disappointment Adachi being a "peerless angel" in Kurosawa’s eyes 🤣 Yeah, what came up in the discussion around TSHD is one of the reasons I’m leaving that show until it is done airing. I’m certain it will be very interesting, but I’ve lived through decades and decades of all variations of these homophobic semantics (generic and internalised from within the queer community) and am a bit tired of all that at present. If something got me started on how so much of this is just hetero-assimilationist nonsense – I’d be ranting here forever. 😆 Found the idea that the mangaka wanted to end the series at the point where Adachi lost his magic ability really interesting and am very glad they ended up going beyond that. I understand that the core concept was in a sense – someone who would still have trouble with communication even while literally possessing a superpower meant to ‘solve’ communication. But that concept to me opens loads of avenues for the ‘after.’ Loved that we got a glimpse of Adachi’s family! I hope that the world will get the opportunity be wider in that sense in the manga. Thank you again for starting this journey. 🥰 Looking forward to the next volume! 🍒

People saying that you can't awrite about something if you are not experiencing it yourself are really crazy, because, like, thats not a thing about media from the moment media exists. Oda does not have to be a pirate to write about pirates. Dostoyevsky does not have to murder someone with an axe to write about Raskolnikow in a Crime and Punishment. Hiromu Arakawa does not have to be an amputee to write about Edward Elric (nor she have to be a teen boy). Everything is about respect and educating yourself about other people and their situations. Fiction is literally for us to immerse and empathise with characters and writing media is also about working with a new emotions and situations that you havent experienced. Saying that yaoi is only women fetishizing mlm relationships in just simply not true - yaoi is such a wide genre with a stories about literally anything. There are a lot that are just straight up porno without much plot, but there are also a lot of stories that are more realistic and that focus on its characters, their stories and struggles and that treats them with respect, a lot of yaoi also talks about difficulties that lgbt people have to face in society. And women are allowed to write about it and work with these themes in their stories. Not only that - a lot of women works with their own sexuality through it, and a lot of people that read it realizes later that theyre lgbt+ in some way. Also... I think this is something that was talk about in Sasaki and Miyano and that Sasaki says it- that BECAUSE it's two man it WORKS and that people like it. I need to say it annoys me a little bit when someone says that yaoi is nothing more than women fetishizing gay relationships and gays sex because for me that means someone just... nor really read much yaoi in their life. The first yaoi I saw was like 20 years ago and from that time I consumed countless yaoi mangas, good and bad. And there is a lot of stories that are honest, that are respectful, that author put A LOT work in and that are real for us lgbt people. Not only that, there are yaois made by a gay men too, like for example bara genre. No only that, I really do not like censore sexual content, expecially lgbt+ sexual content because we should already learn that this is a bad idea and we should actually pursue people writing about lgbt characters and their relationships and make it accesible to people in the world - its a form of fighting with stigma about lgbt people and normalizing lgbt stories as part of everyday world and as something right. (of course I'm talking about adult content toward adult wievers/readers). The problem is also kind of rooted in misogyny and criticizing women for openly showing their "sexual" sides, but its talk for another time I think... I literally stopped the video at 23 minutes to rant there because I got so annoyed lmao.
