That is SUCH a great way to describe the scientific process! Yesssss…LOVE that! I love how you phrase that and will have to bring it up in a future episode. But yes, I agree with you 100% on your musings with science and why it bothers people; I think of poetry and the reason it bothers folks are about for the same reasons! I love how Hubert sees the world and it’s so inspiring! And your note about ‘putting god in a box’ is so fitting! Yessss, love this talk in this comment! Nowak and the Pear of Anguish is terrifying! And yes, he does have pride in his work, from what we’ve seen! The fact that you tied him in as you think of your own patients is just the perfect dark humor! I just love Rafal - this intelligent, wise-beyond-his-years little scamp! I think about that courage a lot, too, as you said. I usually don’t advocate my religion, but instead want my words and actions to do the “speaking” for me and if they ask, then I tell them, of course. I think in my case, it’s easier in a sense to say “I’m a Christian,” but I have seen those that don’t believe react to me in ways that I have seen done in reverse, so it’s fascinating. Humans are so strange! 😀 It’s definitely a lot to marvel over, as you noted, to be sure! Thank you for the comment and the kind words! I am sure the manga is amazing, but OH NO. Nail pulling in the manga? Nope. I don’t need to see graphic detail on that one. Hahaha!!

Thank you for the comment and kind words - Episode 2 FLEW by! But I’m loving it! And yes, Hubert loving the beauty of the world is so wonderful and inspiring! It just made my heart swell (in a good way) hearing him talk about how he wants to view the world! And you can tell that conviction definitely inspired and influenced Rafal throughout this episode. That Pear of Anguish is TERRIFYING. Nope. Nopity Nope. And hahahahaha – my intention is honestly to inflict as much damage as I can with the phrase “skibidi toilet,” which I will still be pondering the meaning of as I’m admitted into assistive living. Thank you for the comment!

Great reaction and discussion!! Man, I forgot how quickly those episodes go. They are truly so deeply immersing that you feel like no time passed at all and the episode already ended. The thing about Hubert that gets me the most, I think, is how much be wanted to believe in the inherent beauty of the world he was born into. He lived in a world that defined you through your suffering, your abstinence of everything more than basic survival. Where your wants and everything not done in the name of God was seen as sinful and unnecessary. He looked that world in the eye and said. No. I don't believe that. I believe in beauty, in pursuit of your own joy, in living your every day fully. I believe this world to be wonderful. And he didn't give up this conviction even after god knows how long of being tortured. Not even in the face of sure death. He kept being himself, all the good and bad parts of it, until the very end. He went out just the way he lived - staying entirely true to himself. That sort of conviction is always awe aspiring to see. Fun fact! Pear of anguish is regarded as one of the most popular methods of torture in medieval Poland - almost every exhibition about torture tools in Poland has one in their collection because of how many of them there were. Also. Aside from the episode. I really took some critical mental damage from hearing you say Skibidi Toilet XDD

There is something that I from time to time, have to explain to people about science and how it constantly changes. The scientific process is not there to prove an idea right, it’s to prove it wrong! Through trying to disprove a finding, we move closer to the truth of it. Sometimes we prove what we thought was a truth to be wrong. We move closer to the truth. Now, I know that the word “theory “ is used in a layman’s way here, and that is fine. Based on the time period, I have no idea how they categorized the steps of the scientific method as it could literally end you! So, a hypothesis is an idea that you test. A Theory is a hypothesis that has been tested so much its regarded as a truth until proven otherwise. It is as close to a fact as we humans can get. I know this drives people crazy because they want concrete non changing answers that they can hang their hat on as a truth. I think this is why we have so much backlash against science currently. It can come down to lack of education and also the vastness of our knowledge. It’s impossible to understand all of it. I mean, can you explain how your GPS in your smartphone works? ( hint, time dilation) Hubert, I absolutely agree with how he sees the world. I do see the world this way. I always look at the world with wonder! It is beautiful! I just don’t assign god as having anything to do with it. Sometimes religion (I’m talking all religions, not just Christianity) puts god in a box. The audacity of humanity to cage a god with religious scripture! If God is truly a God, why not the Heliocentric model as opposed to the Geocentric model. Silly humans. We love to make deities conform to our rules! Norwak! Mmmm the pear of anguish! What a cruel implementation of torture! Pear of anguish - Wikipedia You covered this in the video. 👍 I feel Norwak really takes pride in his vocation! Eeesh! So I was reading this at work between patients. ( this relates to episode 1 with the nails being pulled) My next patient was have some teeth extracted for braces! Omg! All I could think of was Norwak! I’m so grateful for anesthesia! My little patient was a trooper! They did great! Yeah, Rafal just blurting out “AsTrOnOmy!” Is not the best move, drama for sure! The courage to stand up for one’s conviction is something that I think about a lot! I actually work for a very Christian practice. I’m talking vereeery Christian! It’s Texas after all! I have been with these people who I consider my family for almost two decades. Not once have I ever told them what I believe or don’t believe. Then again, no one has ever asked me. It’s pretty laid back. There is an itch at the back of my brain that one day, I will be cornered and asked if I believe in God and Jesus as the savior. At that time, I hope I have the strength to say, NO. Now, I’m sure they can glean what my beliefs are for my love of all things science, so I’m sure I’m not fooling anyone and they love me just the same. Now having said that, I didn’t blurt out our plans we have with my sister to protest on Labor day as they are very conservative as well. I, I just feel the walls closing in with this country. We must have courage! I do my small part. It is a wonder what our ancestors went through to get us to this point in time! I marvel at it often. Well, on to the next video! Loved your reactions and I am loving the manga…. Ooooo, that nail pulling scene in the manga… 😱
