[Drawing] Koi

I had a chance to draw it once in 2022, but they lost the vote and drew a different animal 😅

Anyway, I recently realized that I haven't drawn fish in a long time... here are some drawings.

Unlike other fish, the koi is more famous when viewed from above than from the side. The type of pattern is also based on the view from above. I think It generally gives the public a luxurious, traditional, and somewhat mysterious oriental feeling.

Hmm... but that's the public image and anyway I like the front or side view of the fish better😎 Well, maybe because when looking from above is that there is no feeling of eye contact. For example, in terms of humans, many artists do not draw high-angle pictures of people with their heads down when drawing human portraits. Most artist prefer an angle that shows their facial expressions well.

And to me, koi/carp is like a friendly local fish. Because where I live, you can see them quite commonly.

Wild carp are everywhere and I often see koi in parks, schools, restaurants, etc. If there's an artificial pond somewhere, there's always carp there. People feed the carp a lot of snacks and every time they do, they come over and open their mouths wide.

I find that look so cute.

They are really cute, especially the little whiskers. Of course, I love all fish, but as a Corydoras lover, I love all fish with whiskers twice as much.

I may draw it with a little bit of the front + side + top view.

• 1. I can capture the cute appearance of opening the mouth

• 2. If there are some side and top views,I can express it in various ways.

Or I could draw it like a chart.

I've drawn some fish charts, but I've never drawn the top view of fish.

Drawing something new is always an artistic challenge 🤩 Conversely, since the top side of the koi is mostly famous, it might be fun to draw the less famous side as well.
