Bichir, polypterus, I've been wanting to paint them since last year.
Bichir a really cool looking freshwater fish at the same time very cute.
They are elongated fish, which have a distinctive dorsal fin.
And this wonderful fish breathes AIR.
Even like salamanders they have external gills when they were young.
senegalus has a striped pattern when very young, but disappears as they grow older.
Other polypterus patterns darken as they mature.
In the artwork, there are some that have been given patterns of adult fish to distinguish the types of fish. Maybe some are precocious, some may have external gills for more long time than others...?😂
I added nose-tube in the middle, but eventually deleted it.
Because this drawing was complicated enough.
For example, I drew a lot of scales unlike usual.
I really liked the texture of the diagonal stripes they had....
I'm thinking of drawing a baby salamander as a series someday.
There was a bunch of hand-drawn sketch I drew last year, but I don't know where it is..😂
Anyway, they're on my mind, so I'll redraw them.
