I think it can get hard watching this show sometimes because we KNOW how great they all become, but a significant part of that is because of how much work and training they went through. I feel like there's two different categories of people they're working with throughout the show, their instructors who can get more emotionally invested in them to help guide them more gently and work with them every day to help them grow and their assessors who are the ones who have to be more objective in order to give them the feedback they need to succeed. Even in this first episode here they knew more than half the girls wouldn't make it and that was when there were only 13 of them and the goal was to go ahead with 20 before they whittled it down to just 6. It would be a disservice to the girls to not give them the practical advice they need to grow, especially because it'll help them grow the backbone they need to continue working in the industry. It's hard because working in the arts can always feel so personal, but if a director tells you "hey, you're missing your mark" you need to learn to take it as something you need to correct for the next shot, not some sort of personal attack. I'm a writer, not a performer, but getting to the point where I could recognise the difference between someone providing their personal opinion versus an objective piece of advice versus something intended to be insulting was incredibly hard. Those are three very different things and learning how to differentiate that and how you want to respond to each of those things can be tricky.
