Lil feetsies RIP

So a lil story time...
I had invisioned this super fun and cute project involving resing casted feetsies of Glas as keychains... Turns out, I got dillusional by youtube resin and 3d printing tutorials...

I poored in the silicone... First mistake, due to time constrains I didn't invested time in a proper 3d printed mold and just gave it a shot with an inclosed box, where the feet sat in... the one I already showed you beforehand.

I was really in crunch time so I said fuck it, when I shouldn't have. So I ended up distroing the 3d print and wasted some money and opportunity, but I at the time was so anxiouse about the remaining time until con, that I couldn't care anymore... Oh I should have cared more.
Long story short, tried to get the silicone mold out of the 3d print, cut myself several times, cause, oh my, broken 3d prints are sharp as Glas...I mean glass.

After breaking, cutting, and even sawing the feet out of their silicone prison it revealed that the silicone somehow reacts with the 3d print, so the silicone don't fully cure on the surface of the feet... At least this is my supposition... Means I had to clean the feet with alcohol and a toothbrush

After that I additionaly realized the feet do have bumps of supports on them. Obviously this is a thing, even in resin printing, so I sanded them down... but of course the silicone I already used for the mold has said bumps imprinted, so if I use it I have to sand the casts as well after demolding... Speaking of demolding... this form is a pure nightmare to get out of the way to hard silicone... folding over my nails, cramps in the hand and soure muscles afterwards... No fun. Not recommended. So I made new Molds in cups...

Ended up being even harder to demold, cause you don't have enougth area to grip on and pulling the silicone away... (I also attempted a brush on mold but my spirit already was broken, and I had other things to finish for printing posters and stuff...so I didn't finished it)

Anyways... I started casting some test feet with resin.

Resin is VERY MESSY and you can't let it onto your skin or you might end up develope an allergy for it... So contantly wiping away spillage or stuff... especially on the resin-bottles...

But the pigment I used does look pretty <3

24 hours and some sanding later, I had feet... very... very... bubbly... feet... and I mean not the good bubbly... literally FULL of bubbles... Those show even more after sanding since the sanded material got trapped in the tiny holes and make the bubble indends appear white... yeay. At this point I was giving up for now.

If I want this project to be a success I need to be more prepared.
I may try to do brush on molds since those are known for less bubble trapping, but take way longer to make due to the nature of silicone to thinnen and running, when spilled over a surface... But maybe it will be worth the effort.
Additionally I have to think about how to get rid of bubbles while resin casting... A pressure pod is not an option for now since it is way to expansive for a project I am not sure off how it will turn out, if this makes sense...

I defiantly wanna try this again, since I still have the 3D printed feet and some silicone left...
But for now it turned out to be an investment that was well an expansive failure for now.
Still I really like the idea and I will give it another shot when I am ready and have some spare time... Maybe over christmas holidays or so... But yeah I am still proud of the 3D Model I made, the idea overall and my attempt.

So I learned some things along the way, which makes this failure feel actual rewarding still.
I am happy I did it and I hope you will continue supporting silly prodjects like that, even if they fail.

Thank you for your time and sorry to disappoint you for now.
I will do better in the future! Even if I fail again, I at least will learn new things and grow as a person and artist, thanks to you.

I hug each one of you.

Awww, -hugs back- thanks for all the effort on our behalf! 🥰 The casts that did survive still look cute.
