Why Cheap LED Lights Keep Glowing

Here's a dual treat for you! Because you get to watch Steve's companion video too:

This is the answer to the age-old question, why some cheap LED lights keep glowing after switched off? Although I don't know how "age-old" that question is!

Why Cheap LED Lights Keep Glowing

Comments

How can you sleep clearly Auraglow is spying on you.. be careful.

Some filament LEDs also glow in the dark due to the phosphor coating they use, much like the hands of some analogue watches. I had an Auraglow brand filament LED bulb in my bedside light and there was just something spooky seeing those filaments glow in the dark, reminding me of my childhood where CRT TVs also gave a ghostly-like glow in the dark. I later replaced the bulb with a Philips vintage-style filament LED and its filament phosphors don't glow in the dark. However for the first few nights, I still got spooked by that Auraglow bulb as I accidentally left it laying on the bedside locker and kept forgetting about it during the day! We also had one cheap LED bulb that glowed from the electrical capacitance that this video is about. The bulb only had a short life and ended up replacing it as it lost about half its brightness after a year.

Ahhh! That makes total sense to me now why the nightlight in my bathroom still worked for a few days after cutting the power..

Can you create an rlc circuit with you being the c causing the led to blink? Can you do this with DC, the led should turn off when you are fully charged? How about using your van de Graff machine?

used to have a similar problem at my old place. When we replaced the incandescent bulbs with LEDs, some of them kept glowing slightly even when the power was shut from the wall switch. Turned out some of my fixtures were switched through the neutral instead of live, so leakage from the always powered live wire made the bulbs glow.

I had the same problem, but I replaced the light bulb and the problem disappeared

Free energy? hehehehehe
