Tesla Coil Experiments
Added 2017-09-20 17:29:08 +0000 UTCHello people! I put my OneTesla together and it is loud and awesome! I am looking for suggestions for non-lame experiments to do with it for my video. I have some tests lined up, but you if you have some crazy test in mind please let me know! Have fun!

Hi Mehdi, I have been wanting to do an experiment for a while but I never had all the equipment and skills: can we guide a plasma arc using magnetic field? If you can direct the plasma with pulsating magnetic coils, you may be able to combine that with a high pressure gas stream to create a continuous stream of plasma in one direction. That potentially could be used to cut non metal materials. To sumerize, build a plasma cutter that instead of cutting only metal can cut any material. I know you can do it!
2017-09-23 03:21:56 +0000 UTCsurely you can use it to levitate a table tennis ball?
2017-09-22 08:13:42 +0000 UTCNo good idea about what the new one should focus on, but how about answering the age old question about the old one; "Will it mow?" Tesla5000 has not put out a video for a while. Give him a shout!
2017-09-21 20:00:17 +0000 UTCHow about a linear accelerator. <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Electron-Accelerator-A-Cathode-Ray-Tube-in-a-/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Electron-Accelerator-A-Cathode-Ray-Tube-in-a-/</a> I have a vague probably erroneous memory that if you put Aluminum foil in an electron beam you can generate x rays. This might be an expensive problem in the US, but in your case, Health Canada can fix any problems you cause for free.
2017-09-21 12:17:48 +0000 UTCyou could shove it up your ass. live. but you should. not.

2017-09-21 11:05:15 +0000 UTCCan it ionize glass?
2017-09-21 10:03:09 +0000 UTCSquirt a water pistol over the top load and have an electro(boom)cannon of awesome safety.

2017-09-21 10:00:28 +0000 UTCWhat items can you pass through the electrical field and what happens when you do? Interesting!!!!!
Ron Kroetz
2017-09-21 03:07:58 +0000 UTCHow about some measurement experiments? EMC? And maybe find out the minimum requirements for a structure to act as a Faraday cage :-)
2017-09-20 23:19:52 +0000 UTCSee if you can hear the song while you have the arc in a small vacuum like the one created with the needle in one of your previous videos
2017-09-20 23:03:37 +0000 UTCYou could make diffrent colored arcs with diffrent gases. Or melt little plastic soldiers like in Command and Conquer (drill a hole in one and put some wire in it, or print a soldier with your 3D Printer and a filament with high portion of Coal or CNT). Or you know... just shock yourself, that will never get old XD
2017-09-20 21:57:59 +0000 UTCY don't you try to fry a tomato with that coil? Or maybe try to receive music in radio. Tesla transmitted something (I don't remember right now what) with his coils as radio experiments. And also: GIMME DA MEATAH or OSCOPEY or OTHER PIECE OF LAB EQUIPMENATAH!!!
2017-09-20 21:48:44 +0000 UTCI remember hearing stories of power utility companies prosecuting people that live near HV power lines "stealing power" via coils, or simply by installing fluorescent tubes near enough that they would illuminate. Break that calculation down and the practicality of that method of theft
2017-09-20 21:17:56 +0000 UTC....So....what happens if you play "sounds" that are harmonics of the natural resonance frequency of the coil? What happens if you put it in your vacuum chamber and suck out the air and replace it with noble gasses?
2017-09-20 21:17:06 +0000 UTCChainmail glove.. Some unintended arcing.. Bleeped words..
2017-09-20 21:08:43 +0000 UTCWhat happens in you put it in a microwave (both on and off)?
2017-09-20 21:06:21 +0000 UTCsome metal or rock music for the devils within us
2017-09-20 20:46:19 +0000 UTCCFL lightbulbs operate on high-frequencies, but are they anywhere near the coil's?
Boondoggle
2017-09-20 20:31:21 +0000 UTCI'd be curious to see if you stuck a large conductor in the arc( like some 600mcm wire) how much would it pick up.
2017-09-20 19:37:59 +0000 UTCCurious to see how cheap electronics would hold up to being zapped - maybe a calculator or something that we can see if it A) still turns on and B) can still do math lol Oh - and GIMME DA MEATA!! :)
Matt Williams
2017-09-20 19:27:10 +0000 UTCAlso so the energizing of a fluorescent tube.
2017-09-20 19:13:44 +0000 UTCCould you build a wireless pickup and try to charge something like your phone with it?
2017-09-20 19:13:17 +0000 UTCThe imperial march from Star Wars is the hands down best song though a Tesla coil. We do it in a STEM show at local schools.
2017-09-20 19:12:43 +0000 UTCI bet it would sound like explosive diarrhea!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 19:06:42 +0000 UTCAs a more serious suggestion, could you build a Tesla collector (one of those cardboard and tinfoil gadgets with a cheap diode rectifier to ground) and mess with that? Maybe put an audio amplifier on it and see if it works as a really gratuitous wireless transmitter?
Jason Hoffman
2017-09-20 19:00:11 +0000 UTCNot bad! Maybe I can put a rotating Unibrow on top of it...
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:57:58 +0000 UTCI thought about that, but unfortunately don't have access to the pump since I quitted my job! I should buy my own... room is getting tight at home!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:56:36 +0000 UTCwith this Tesla Coil, only gas! its power is not continuous enough. But if you are in survival mode, I suggest you pack a lighter with you rather than a Tesla Coil :D
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:54:53 +0000 UTCThat would be Tick Cruelty!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:53:22 +0000 UTCPerhaps you can play your channel leader (the sound with the moving brows) through the coil...?
Paul Schuur
2017-09-20 18:52:12 +0000 UTCArcs much smaller, can probably transport a finger nail!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:52:08 +0000 UTCwater is much more conductive than air, so you will see no arcs in water.
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:51:21 +0000 UTCtoo much hair down there...
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:50:20 +0000 UTChmmm, that gives me an idea!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:50:02 +0000 UTCSure, if I can find something cheap at home to potentially blow up!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:47:29 +0000 UTC:) That's a good one. I see if I can put a simple circuit together...
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:45:35 +0000 UTCThanks! I was already planning for measurements like your first suggestion. But making a leyden jar takes a bit longer, I have to get this video to market soon!
ElectroBOOM [Mehdi Sadaghdar]
2017-09-20 18:44:42 +0000 UTCI don't know that much about electrical stuffs, but I am learning so much from your channel. One thing I don't know is whether the arc from the TC can be used as a survival situation fire starter? What sorts of items can be ignited with a tesla coil? Leaves? Paper? Matches? Gasoline? Hair spray? Inquiring minds want to know!
2017-09-20 18:37:28 +0000 UTCSome ideas: - try to pick up the electromagnetic waves (and maybe the frequencies) via the oscilloscope from some feet away. A wire antenna could work I presume. - build a Leyden jar and try to charge it via the tesla coil. Then see if it makes a difference to the jolt. Maybe try to measure the discharge current 1. of the tesla coil directly and 2. the Leyden jar with a resistor devider and the oscilloscope. But don't hold me responsible when the scope blows up... - try the ESD properties of electronic parts, like transistors, ICs (NE555 etc.), diodes, LEDs, ... If a part survives direct discharge from the coil, you can still zap it with the Leyden jar.

2017-09-20 18:21:19 +0000 UTCI'm a huge fan of Amazon's new "The Tick" tv show. There's a scene where a villain tries to kill the title character by shooting giant arcs of electricity at him from her hands (that's her supervillain power.) It doesn't work on the show, but maybe you could find a real tick and see if you could kill it with the Tesla coil, and maybe Amazon will give you stuff for the promotional tie in. (But probably not.)

2017-09-20 18:18:59 +0000 UTCPlay "Good Vibrations" by the beech boys along with "won't get fooled again" By the Who.
2017-09-20 18:10:18 +0000 UTCPlay paranoid with it!!!
2017-09-20 17:58:51 +0000 UTCPerform the "New Transported Man" from the movie "The Prestige." Is that crazy enough?
Rob Clark
2017-09-20 17:55:22 +0000 UTCTest underwater arcs! Just make something to hold a water container (maybe glass, maybe plastic, maybe metal) above the TC and see if the arcs come through the water, maybe salt water.
2017-09-20 17:52:18 +0000 UTCLight your farts
Kevin Cherry
2017-09-20 17:51:59 +0000 UTCUse it to start a gas BBQ grill.
Kevin Cherry
2017-09-20 17:51:20 +0000 UTCUse it to solve world hunger.
2017-09-20 17:43:01 +0000 UTCLet it arc through some devices to see if they survive. Cell phone, rasberry pi, toaster, capacitor, FULL BRIDGE RECITIFIER!!!! Can it rectify voltage that high?
2017-09-20 17:42:14 +0000 UTCInstead of modulating it with music, use a microphone instead. Betting it would sound like an angry kazoo!
2017-09-20 17:42:11 +0000 UTCMake some Music with it! :D ... Not in play music THROUGH it, more like use different frequencies to generate sounds! :D
Dimokin
2017-09-20 17:38:39 +0000 UTCUse it to pick people for the next giveaway. Hang some people's names from strings around the Tesla coil and whoever's string gets burnt through first wins.
2017-09-20 17:37:24 +0000 UTCI wanna see sparks coming from beautiful manbrow of yours! Or maybe just fold some wire up into a unibrow shape and put it on the Tesla coil?! That’d be awesome! Who’s with me???
