The Outlet that Saves Lives

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter or GFCI outlet is the hero in the washrooms! Make sure you have it installed, and you plug your electronics in GFCI.

Super happy to be a patreon finally! Been watching your stuff since forever, keep up the good work! Also, have you tried 230V vs 120V in the hand? ~230V is what we usually have in europe. It hurts. But as long as you don't get stuck, NP. Never felt U.S. 120V.

(Hoyt blohm) As do I.

I love full bridge rectifiers

Was she grounded? I think from the pictures she was using an ungrounded extension cord. Was the bath tub grounded? Would she be grounded if the waste pipe was PVC and the water pipes were PEX tubing? It is possible she was using shallow cold water to aid with a medical issue like hemerroids, so she would not have had contact with water pipes hot or cold. Maybe Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters would be a good video.

I would buy your tea! :P

Could use the scope would be very useful not trying g to be pushy.

ElectroBOOM tea shop... would it be called electrici-tea?

Why aren't these required or even put into practice for all outlets? Is there a drawback to them?

If the GFCI interrupts only when current path goes to earth ground why not design them to be more sensitive? Also Captain E-Boom I salute you for your extremely educational and fun videos. Your kinda like the Bill Nye, the science guy of Electrical Engineers. Which is amazing mercy!

Yeah... DIY hand shocker please. Do it :D

Mehdi, thanks once again for an amazing video. I am so happy that you're leaving your job to do this full time! 🀘

I remember textbooks in school listing death "only" at 1A. Seems like i was right not to believe it, it's much lower. Also: GFCI _IN_ the bathroom? Surely the moisture will creep in over time and possibly prevent it from doing its job.

When I watch your videos I am always reminded of Basher in Oceans 11 as he is about to trigger the EMP ...https://goo.gl/JcGpbM

Thanks for making another great video. Made me cringe the whole time!

I think the thing I liked best about this video was that Mehdi's concern for people's safety and particular sympathy for Madison Coe were so clearly behind what ended up being a classic and hilarious ElectroBOOM! You can add saving lives to teaching and entertaining as the list of things EB is good for.

THAT WAS AN INTENSE EPISODE

Faraz Sadrzadeh

Painful episode.

Very interesting video. Thank you!

Can i please have the scope. Thanks in advance

This is great to know, I believe all the outlets in my old apartment, and most of them in my new apartment have their own breakers. Thank you for everything.

Most likely you will have 30mA+ GFCIs. I'm afraid ~5mA switches would trigger too often for the whole mains protection. Usually smaller current GFCIs are installed for bathroom only.

Where I live, it is mandatory to have earth available in all sockets in residential buildings and protected by af fault interrupter

Bo Byriel Nielsen

Hmm. In Denmark this is required by law on the main supply going in to a house/appartment.
