More environment work

Got a decent chunk of work on the monastery environment done. Some work on props and general environment stuff. Some more texturing. And some more work on the lighting.

And started working on the overworld area to drop the monastery into the map. Also did a bunch of cleanup work on environment LODs.

I'm hoping to get this placed in the map this week and then start playtesting the dialogue trees and quest flags. It's getting there!

I keep going back and forth on the amount of books to have in the game. On the one hand it would be cool if books were a rare commodity and only the very wealthy had them in any quantity. But then on the other hand in universe books are such a cool and fun detail that I always enjoyed in games like Skyrim. And I have the book shop already in Redtree so I'll probably end up going with lots of books all over the place. But yes the monks and scribes doing illumination and all the stuff that goes along with it would be a really cool and fun detail. Maybe hit some similar notes to Canticle for Leibowitz. And the religion... I don't have anything set in stone for specific gods yet. But there is a small chapel and altar in the monastery (with placeholder art right now) that the player will be able to interact with. And I do like the idea of subverting or corrupting the altar. But that's a bit further along in the writing process than I've gotten to yet. And totally! The isolation, routine, but also wanting to help and guide the next generation. It's stuff I want to explore further when I get some time to expand the monastery. For this first iteration I'm still trying to keep things small and focused but still let the player sort of putz around the monastery growing plants all day if they want to.

Kinda tired, so I'll make it short: I suggest that you include a library in the monastery. One of the things that monks did was copy, teach, and preserve knowledge. Tables, inks, and parchment for transcribing texts, and if you're feeling fancy, you could add a makeshift lecture hall for students if the monks teach. Something else I've read about monks is that they always followed some kind of religion, which could be fun to play around with. What do they worship? Is what they pray to really what they pray to, or is their prayer being misdirected? Can the player introduce\subvert an alternative deity to worship? Interesting sidenote: monks tend to be older folks seeking isolation from the outside world and a repetitive daily structure. When you get older, you want less for adventure and more for stability.
