Short Story: Celestial Sweaty Extinction

The vast expanse of the cosmos stretched endlessly around her, jeweled with distant stars and swirling galaxies. And yet, all of her focus—her divine concentration—was directed at the fragile little sphere resting in the void before her.

Ilythia, the goddess, creator of light, scholar of time, and matter itself, exhaled softly. She had done it. The small planet, her newest creation, was whole at last.

It was nothing compared to the grand celestial bodies she had sculpted before—suns that burned with unrelenting fire, nebulas that painted the darkness with color. But this... this was delicate. It required a gentler touch.

Her luminous eyes, vast and radiant as twin stars, gleamed as she peered down at her newborn world. Already, she could see the stirrings of life: small creatures—nothing more than specks—crawling from the rich, fertile soil she had shaped with the lightest brush of her fingertips. Tiny forests, mere moss in her sight, stretched toward the warmth of the sun she had placed in orbit. Rivers wound through the land like glistening silver veins.

A smile curved her lips, pride swelling in her chest.

But even gods tire.

Ilythia had spent eons shaping this world, pouring her will into its very foundation. And now, the weight of her effort clung to her, her golden skin glistening under the radiance of the sun she had breathed into being. Droplets of sweat shimmered across her forehead, trailing down her temples, clinging to the curve of her neck.

Then, unnoticed, a single bead of sweat loosened.

It fell.

The tiny world never saw it coming.

A tremor unlike anything before shook the young planet. The minuscule creatures, newly awakened, lifted their simple eyes to the sky, confusion gripping their nascent minds. What was this shadow, this vast shimmering shape descending upon them?

The droplet crashed into the planet's oceans with cataclysmic force.

Waves, towering and monstrous, surged forth in an unstoppable fury. They swallowed forests, devoured mountains, erased entire landscapes before they had even fully formed. Creatures, still learning what it meant to exist, were torn from their homes and cast into the sky, their shrieks lost in the howling winds.

And still, another drop fell. Then another.

Each one, a celestial tsunami.

Entire continents vanished beneath the flood. The planet, once promising and vibrant, was now a world of roiling waters and shattered land.

But high above, Ilythia merely sighed.

She ran a golden hand across her brow, flicking away the lingering droplets. If she had looked closely, she might have noticed the way another vast tidal wave rose in response, obliterating what little remained.

Instead, she leaned back, crossing her arms with an annoyed huff.

"Well," she muttered, "that's frustrating."

She peered down at the churning ocean that had once been a thriving world. Small air bubbles surfaced where land had been only moments before. The creatures? Gone. Scattered. Washed away into oblivion before they even had a chance to worship her.

Ilythia pursed her lips.

"I spent eons shaping that dirt," she mused, tapping her chin. "And now it's just... wet."

The goddess sighed again, rolling her shoulders before lifting a hand.

With a slow, deliberate motion, she waved her fingers. The cosmic forces obeyed her command, unraveling the ruined world thread by thread. Water dissipated into mist. The very foundation of the land cracked apart, dissolving into the void.

She was going to have to start again.

"Maybe," she muttered to herself, "this time, I'll create it in the shade."
