Kaiju Heart Ch 22: A Promise That Could Never Be, Shine The Blue Blade!
Added 2024-11-28 00:26:08 +0000 UTCI clutched Kaguya close, feeling the weight of each shallow, ragged breath she still managed to take. The air was thick with smoke and the stench of burnt concrete and twisted metal, searing my throat with every inhale. My lungs felt like they were on fire, each breath stabbing deeper than the last. I had to get us out of here fast.
Then, just as I tried to brace myself, the world shuddered. My stomach dropped as everything around me started to sway, and then—like a crack of thunder—the ground bucked and threw me hard against the black, scaled walls of this cavernous... belly button. The scales were like steel, unyielding, and the impact nearly knocked the wind out of me. I could feel the bruises spreading across my ribs, each one sharp and throbbing. And before I could recover, the tremors came again, slamming me into the scales a second, then a third time.
That third hit sent Kaguya flying from my grasp.
"Kaguya, no!" I yelled, my voice ragged and desperate as I saw her small form slip from the edge. She was gone in an instant, plummeting out of sight.
Panic clawed at my chest, squeezing tighter than the air burning in my lungs. My mind raced, but there was nothing I could do—I'd lost her. I pressed my back against the wall, feeling helpless and numb as the reality settled in.
"Sun... I'm sorry," I whispered, blinking back tears. This was the one promise I'd sworn to keep. Sun's face swam into my mind, that look he'd given me the last time we spoke—his confidence in me. He'd trusted me to protect her, to make sure she'd be okay. And now, in the middle of this nightmare, all I could do was whisper apologies that would never be enough.

Flariona snarled, her monstrous form radiating intense, destructive heat. Her body, now covered in thick black scales and rippling with muscle, oozed malice with every twitch. The ground beneath her was scorched, ash billowing up with each guttural growl. The once-great city around her lay in ruins—buildings flattened, streets cracked and steaming, and the earth itself warped and cratered. She dug her clawed hands into the ground, her razor-sharp nails slicing deep, as hot drool hissed from her mouth, her blazing blue eyes locked on her opponent.
Before her stood the Titan Buster, a colossal metal warrior, battle-worn and barely holding together. Its left arm hung in useless shambles, torn and frayed wires sparking intermittently. Burn marks scarred its metallic surface, and deep scratches marred what remained of its armor. And yet, it faced her with a resilience that only increased her fury. For every assault it had taken, it had withstood, and that only fueled the rage simmering beneath Flariona's scales.
Without a moment's hesitation, she lunged forward, her massive body crashing into the ground with thunderous force. Her flames roared around her, blue fire spiraling in violent waves that melted anything in its path. She swung a clawed hand, striking the Titan Buster's chest, leaving deep dents and sending it skidding back, its feet carving trenches in the scorched ground. But even as she prepared to launch another assault, the Titan Buster began to hum with a new, deadly energy.
Inside the Titan Buster's cockpit, Captain Marcus Hawthorne braced himself against the vibrating controls. Sparks flew around him as the system alerts reached a fever pitch, screens flashing with critical warnings. He wiped the sweat from his brow, his jaw set in determination. "We only have one chance at this," he said, his voice steady despite the chaos. "We have to use the Eclipse Sabre." His gaze darkened, understanding the cost of that decision.
A soldier, gripping his console with white knuckles, looked at him with wide eyes. "But, Captain... activating the Eclipse Sabre will drain our entire power reserve. Our survival probability... it's close to zero."
"Do it," Marcus ordered, his tone unwavering.
The soldier nodded, swallowing hard. "Yes, sir."
Switching back to the outside, Flariona crouched low, ready to pounce. But she froze as the Titan Buster's remaining arm began to glow with an intense, otherworldly light. The sound built into a deafening hum as the light spiraled, intensifying into a concentrated beam that shot into the sky, illuminating the clouds and tearing through them in a brilliant flash. The glow coalesced, forming a massive blade of light that extended from the Titan Buster's hand, an ethereal weapon that dwarfed anything Flariona had ever seen. The wind whipped around it, the sheer energy pushing back the thick smoke and scattering debris across the battlefield.
"Let's finish this," Captain Hawthorne said, his voice a low murmur that resonated through the mech.
Flariona's growl grew deeper, her fiery blue eyes locked on the weapon before her. Her fury flared, flames surging around her body in a chaotic dance, and she let out a guttural roar, a challenge to the towering blade that dared to face her. The battlefield fell silent for a heartbeat before the final clash.
