Added 2024-11-22 01:26:02 +0000 UTCI gazed ahead, clutching my cousins in my arms, as dust enveloped the surroundings, obscuring our view of what lay ahead. Yet, as the dust gradually dissipated, it unveiled a newfound fear that gripped us.
I looked up, and the hairs on the back of my neck rose, as a terrifying figure emerged from the mist.
"No!"
A monstrous creature stood before us, its massive form casting a long, dark shadow, as it stood hundreds of feet in the air.
I glanced down at Mathew. His face was buried against my chest, and he was trembling uncontrollably.
I tightened my hold on him and whispered reassuringly, "We'll be alright." I said not believing the words coming out of my mouth.
I turned my gaze towards the girls, who were also trembling.
"Lynn, Aubry, get behind me," I instructed, setting Mathew down and pulling them close.
"But Braden!" Lynn protested.
"Do it!" I snapped, my tone sharper than intended.
"What are you planning to do?" Aubry questioned, her voice filled with uncertainty.
I said nothing, what was there to say when it came to any of this.
I looked up as I heard an ear piercing growl.
"Gulp."
I felt the girls tighten their grip on me. As we both peeked up at the same looming figures, massive titans towered over the neighborhood.
My gaze fixed on a colossal shark, its body adorned with blue scales and muscles that seemed endless. "Dad," I uttered, fear coursing through my voice.
Up next, a gigantic fox with brown paws and luscious white fur caught my attention. Her majestic appearance contradicted the terror within. "Mom," I said, tears welling up.
My eyes shifted to a towering lioness, her golden fur accentuating the lethal grace of her thin, muscular frame. "Valora," I said, my fists clenched in both fear and determination.
A colossal green alligator, covered in the remnants of our house, met my gaze. Its teeth resembled blades, and its muscular form seemed impenetrable. "Tyler," I whispered, shaking slightly.
Turning my attention to a massive tiger, its fur ablaze in fiery orange with delicate black lines. Its claws dug deep into the ground. "Kurtis," I spoke, taking a step back, feeling the weight of the situation.
Lastly, my eyes fell upon a hyena, adorned with black dots on its body and light brown fur. Once again, its presence was imposing, and I couldn't ignore the unsettling prominence of its massive breasts that jiggled as it looked down at me. "Lexie." I said, shaking my head in denial.
This was my family, these monsters, these Nilocks.
"What do we do?" Lynn asked, her voice wavering, as she pulled closer to me.
I took a deep breath, and with a steadfast resolve, I replied, "Father!"
I cupped my hands around my mouth and shouted, "Dad!"
My voice echoed into the night, but the titanic Nilock did not respond.
"Dad!" I yelled again, hoping for a response.
The titanic shark growled, its jaws opening wide, revealing rows of jagged, sharp teeth.
"Oh my God." I whispered, my voice trembling, as the Nilock snarled.
I swallowed hard, and with a shaky voice, I shouted, "Dad, please listen to me!!!"
The shark roared, the force of its voice sending
a powerful gust of wind, pushing us backward.
I shielded the girls, keeping them safe, as we stumbled into a tree, its roots digging into the ground.
I looked up to see the titanic shark roar once again, and my heart sank.
"This can't be real." I said in disbelief, my voice cracking.
"Braden!"
My eyes snapped open at the sound of Aubry's panicked voice.
"Oh no," I muttered, my gaze falling upon the massive, alligator like, Nilock. It's eyes focused on us, its mouth agape, its jaw dropping slowly.
I looked down at the girls. "oh my god what's that?" I heard another unfamiliar voice from nearby. "The neighbors." I said to myself, before shouting at the girls.
"Run!"
I picked them up, and without hesitation, I ran as fast as I could, away from the danger, and towards the unknown. My feet carried us through the chaos.
"what the hells happening over their?"
"Are they shooting a movie?"
I ignored the people's voices, as more and more of them began to flood the streets. I grabbed ahold of Aubrys hand who intern grabbed ahold of Lynn's.
"Just a little further." I reassured the girls as I pushed our way through the crowds of people.
There was only one way, a single path to ensure our survival.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, the weight of the words heavy on my conscience. The sudden gasps of recognition echoed as the truth settled in for everyone.
In my mind, a reluctant realization formed – they would have to be our shields. The desperate urgency drove me forward, pushing me to continue running, each step laden with the burden of an unthinkable sacrifice.
