Titan Rumble Ch 4: Familiar Faces Meet Again!

(CAIN)

I couldn't stop staring at that massive brown eye, hovering just inches away—or at least it felt like inches to me. In reality, it was probably hundreds of feet up. My legs took a shaky step back, instinct kicking in as my brain screamed, Run! But where the hell was I supposed to go? There was a damn metal rail behind me and a sea of Omegas packed in like sardines.

That eye was still locked on me, like I was the most interesting thing it had seen all day. My heart pounded in my chest as the rumbling sound hit me—something between a laugh and a low growl. A giggle? A freaking giggle?

"Uh... hi?" I said, my voice cracking in the most embarrassing way possible. I plastered on an awkward smile, like that was gonna help. Maybe it wouldn't notice how freaked out I was, right?

The eye slowly pulled back, and I could finally see more of the face it was attached to. My eyes widened as a giant cheek came into view, then a nose the size of a boulder, followed by a familiar set of lips that stretched into an amused grin.

"The hell..." I muttered, staring in confusion.

(YUNA)

There he was. That tiny little speck, barely visible among the crowd of Betas on the platform. But somehow, I knew it was Cain. I didn't know how I knew, but the moment I spotted him, something deep in my gut screamed, That's him.

My heart pounded in a way that made no sense, and before I even realized what I was doing, I had leaned down, face inches from the platform. I didn't need to get this close; Alphas could see the smallest details from miles away, but there I was, practically breathing on the poor Betas.

The fear in their tiny faces, especially Cain's, made me grin. It wasn't just fear—it was recognition, too. I could see it in his wide eyes, and that made my grin even bigger.

"Cain... you're Cain, right?" I asked, trying not to sound too smug, though I wasn't doing a great job at hiding it.

He looked up at me, confused, his little brow furrowing. "Um... who are you?"

My heart skipped a beat, and not in a good way. Did he really not remember me? After all the years I spent thinking about this moment, about seeing him again, and he didn't even know who I was? My fists clenched by my sides, and I could feel the heat rising in my chest.

"You... you don't remember me?" I asked, voice tight. "After all the shit you put me through?"

He blinked, looking even more confused. "What? What are you talking about?"

What am I talking about? This guy. This little mite really had no idea. I had half a mind to just flick him off the platform and be done with it. My fist twitched, and I had to stop myself from crushing him right then and there.

Then, suddenly, a flicker of realization hit his face. "Wait a minute," he said, stepping forward. "You aren't... Yuna, are you?"

I narrowed my eyes. "Yes!" I shouted, the force of my voice sending Cain and half the platform tumbling back. Oops. My cheeks flamed with embarrassment as I realized I'd accidentally knocked over a bunch of Betas with nothing but my breath.

"Oh, sorry!" I quickly said, backing up slightly.

Cain scrambled to his feet, brushing off his clothes, looking dazed but surprisingly unfazed. "It's okay," he muttered. "Really."

I sighed, trying to calm down. I'd waited so long to face him again, and here I was screwing it up already. To make up for it, I lowered my hand down to the platform, fingers outstretched. "Here, climb on," I said.

He looked up at me, then down at my hand, then back at me again, like he was considering whether or not I was about to squash him. To my surprise, he stepped forward without hesitation and leaped onto my finger with surprising grace, using the ridges in my skin like footholds.

As he made his way to my palm, I couldn't help but feel... impressed? No, annoyed. Definitely annoyed. He hadn't changed at all, still as cocky and sure of himself as ever.

Once he was settled in my hand, I lifted him up and started walking through the airport. His tiny voice piped up from below. "Where's your dad?"

I glanced down at him. "We split up to look for you. Finding a Beta in this place is like searching for a needle in a haystack."

He snorted. "Yeah, well, that's kind of the point of these platforms, isn't it? To keep us from getting stepped on by you guys."

I couldn't help but laugh at that, and it felt good, even though he was right. Still, the thought of him being so small, so vulnerable, gave me a strange satisfaction. He had no idea what was coming. No idea what I had in store for him.

Revenge is going to be sweet, I thought, glancing down at him with a smirk as we made our way through the crowds of towering Alphas. Cain, whether he knew it or not, had just stepped back into my world—and this time, I wasn't going to let him forget me.
