Yeah, Russell T Davies is actually one of the most groundbreaking gay TV writers ever - Queer as Folk in 1999-2000 was iconic and HUGELY controversial (and it led to the more famous, but in my opinion inferior - but still good! - American remake). That'd be a good reaction - Queer as Folk, the OG UK edition, I mean! RTD's gayness shines through everything he writes ;)

You said that you were going to watch just episode 1 of season 5, which is valid, but here's the thing, there is a small Youtube minisode that takes place between episode 1 and 2 that you might want to react to and could fit in quite well there, called 'Meanwhile in the TARDIS, part 1', which you can find here: https://youtu.be/-Uw3m3xdZSY Just makes sure it's just Part 1, as Part 2 takes place after episode 5.
