Doctor Who S4 Specials 4+5! (Patreon Exclusive)

I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO EITHER DAVID TENNANT! 😭

In this video I'm reacting to the episodes "The End of Time Part 1 and 2".

Doctor Who S4 Specials 4+5! (Patreon Exclusive)

"Why they gotta pull at our heartstrings like that???" Oh, Morgan.. The episode isn't over. You need to learn not to say things like that. But yeah.. Wilf and The Doctor. Even having seen the episode, even knowing what was going to happen, it still wrung tears out of me with the booth, and the choice, and the after with the goodbyes. I look forward to the retrospective for the season :)

It's been so good rewatching David Tennant's time as the Doctor with you! It's definitely an emotional goodbye! I'm excited to see what you think of Matt Smith as the Doctor, I think his first series is a lot of fun :D

Rebecca H

That's one thing that hasn't really been mentioned yet. The Doctor and the Master aren't just old enemies; they're best friends as well. Mind you, the whole thing with the drums, that's an invention of the new show. And [very minor spoiler] one that future writers are not going to ever mention again.

Carabas

Also about the whole ,,The Doctor held back his regeneration for so long"... It was stated in a later episode of the spinoff show ,,The Sarah Jane advdntures" that he did not just visit 10's companions (even if it only showed them), but every single one from ClassicWho too... Which is a lot of people, even if some are/were at the same place/ time period.

hmmm, I think the primary thing for the "old people in churches on christmas" is mostly impart due to the fact that Christmas was originally a holiday to celebrate the birth of Christ(mas). As for why it's old people uhhh.... idk? lmao

Willow 404

How did I cry harder and more than Morgan?! Lmao It's been so long since I last watched these specials, and seeing them again through a reactor still hits, but it got to a point where I wasn't even watching Morgan's reactions to scenes, and instead, the memories of my first watch came flooding back. I seriously had a solid 10-15 minutes of sobbing, especially when he was saying goodbye to everyone because he protected/saved a couple of them one last time, and my brain was like, "He cares so much!" I don't recall if you've stated you'd watch the entire series, but for however long you continue the Doctor Who journey, I'm excited to see it.

Sarah H

I'm really impressed that you called it, Morgan. I loved this reaction so much. Looking forward to you meeting Matt Smith officially!

I love these episodes but boy does it make me tear up at times, why is David Tennant so good at being sad 😭 --- I mentioned this in a previous comment but was unsure if you'd see it. I've made a playlist with some of the extras that you should definitely not miss out now that you've finished the Tennant era (bloopers, send off vid, David's video diaries - which are long but I'd imagine you'd like them since it's ~1:25:00 of David Tennant content): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQbczCO15WUubm_iQRhUbSyCL9eiVBG0n&si=zTo88fZ0_mzw9uAk

In the Master’s defence, no one gave him cutlery

Verdigree

So, it’s not an audible physical noise, if it were, everyone would have known it was real, Time Lords are just a little telepathic

Verdigree

God when you said you was starting Doctor who I just knew that “I don’t wanna go” line was gonna get to you 🤣

ItsSimmeRin

Take your time, Morgan! This episodes are still hurting me. Everytime I watch them.

Gaudi Daamen

Lol, Σ (Sigma) is just a letter of the Greek alphabet, like Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Pi, Omega, it’s the big letter on Ood Sigma’s shirt

Verdigree

As to the trope of old people going to church on Christmas, I don’t know if that can be called a “trope,” that is just real, I was in church choir for years and that’s the busiest service there is

Verdigree

I don’t remember how often it’s happened but there’s definitely been a narrator before, there was Rose with her “This is How I died”

Verdigree

Happy Birthday!!!

I actually feel bad for John Simm (the guy playing the Master) in this episode, as he had to play every single version of himself in every possible outfit imaginable, many of which didn't even fit him...and he also said that he got really sick of laughing, which I can definitely understand. Oh, and here's a bit of extended knowledge that is never explained onscreen. When the Master zapped the Time Lord President and saved the Doctor at the end, he actually went ahead and jammed that White-Point Star diamond down the President's throat, which made him regenerate. Now, as for the Mystery Woman. It is never really explained, but the prevailing theory, and the one that makes the most sense, is that she is the Doctor's mother. Also yeah, you were actually quite right with one thought and that is that Time Lords as a whole aren't evil, but their leadership on the other hand...and especially Rassilon, the President, is a giant egomaniac. It's actually a kind of a meme in the classic show how many things are named after him. It's also a bit of important lore that ordinarily Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times, but he decided that he was too special for that and made it so that he himself didn't have a limit.

/The End of Time part 1/ "Got married. Good Queen Bess, let me tell you her nickname is no longer..." - the Doctor married Queen Elizabeth I, who if you remember from the Shakespeare episode tried to have him executed on sight when she recognised him. Her nickname was "the Virgin Queen". The Elder Ood is voiced by Brian Cox, star of Succession. "Did he just go full Dahmer?" - technically it's not cannibalism. Time Lords have low-level psychic powers that let them sense each other. They can also do mind-melds that lets the Master share his ringing head. You might gasp at Minnie making a pass at the Doctor, but it's him who'd be the cradle-snatcher in age terms. Look at his lip tremble! Hug him, Wilf. "Who the fuck are you?" - That is Rassilon, Lord President of the Time Lords, as played by the actor Timothy Dalton. Though most people know him better as James Bond. The Time Lord era of Gallifrey was created by 2 people. Rassilon, a dynamic leader who built their society, and Omega, a mad scientist who built all their tech (including time travel). Bannakaffalatta Yes there's a lot of spit in this special. They really should have doctored it out of the footage. /The End of Time part 2/ At the start of this episode the BBC played a special version of its Xmas Who ident with David Tennant doing a voice over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ofeIE0mAE The original plan for this entire finale was much simpler. A single alien family is stuck on a spaceship with a broken engine that's leaking radiation, and only the Doctor can save them at the cost of his own life. Was going to be all mood pieces and introspection as the Doctor tries to reason his way out of it but eventually works up the nerve to step into the engine room. David Tennant hurt his back whilst filming, so travelling down those stairs strapped to a gurney was incredibly painful for him. Yeah, there really isn't any technobabble or lore explaining why the Doctor can survive jumping from a spaceship hundreds of feet in the air onto a hard marble floor. Made stranger by the fact that one of his previous incarnations died a very lame death by falling a short distance. It's rare for a show to really invest in an elderly character. You need someone to stare into your hero's eyes with tears streaming down their face saying how much they mean to them, so many shows would have settled for plugging in a pretty woman. The Time Lady who kept appearing to Wilf was initially meant to be the Doctor's mother, but they changed it to be more ambiguous. Wasn't a fan of pairing Martha and Mickey together. Aside from ditching Dr Tom, it smacked of "You're both Black, you must have so much in common!" If you find the Doctor Who Confidential for this episode, you can see footage of Tennant's alternate takes for "I don't want to go." They did 3 takes of increasing emotional intensity and went with the middle one. David Tennant will return! If this final episode felt like grieving, his second "final episode" feels like healing. Very cathartic.

In the US you can watch Classic Doctor Who on Tubi, Britbox, and Max. Maybe more that I don’t know of. I recently watched An Unearthly Child on Britbox I think, so it’s still around.

Melanie Voight

Oh.. those episodes makes me crying mess, Im gonna Miss David As Dcotror so much he was the Best Doctor and that Line "i don´t wanna go" Oh that broke me

Green Ween (Nat)

Highly recommend watching ClassicWho in your free time bit by bit, it is on BBC Iplayer (in the UK - but VPN is your friend in that). If you do a few thing beforehand. 1. The very first seriel (An Unearthly Child) is no longer on there, but I believe it can be found online somewhere, it was taken down because of legal reasons. 2. There are some seriels (or parts or some seriels) that are just not available, mainly for the 1st and 2nd (and maybe a few later Doctors as well)... Just so you know if you can't find it there why it is the case.

2:33:37 its not to easy to hear but the tardis is ringing the cloister bells... that means he's going to regenerate and sarah jane knows that

T0m4002

If you wanna take a week off that is entirely reasonable, I think you're gonna really enjoy Smith's doctor. If you decide you'd like a short doctor who thing instead of a full break, you might want to look at The Curse of Fatal Death. It was a doctor who comedy short the BBC made for charity you can find on youtube, might be a nice palette cleanser for you :3

Part 1: 8:50. *Car noice* 🤣🤣🤣. That was some random sh*t. Okay. Here we go. What are we in for? 25:05. Omg, I recognize these two. I've seen him in DC's Supergirl. And here's, in DR'S Legends of Tomorrow. Interesting to see them here😃 32:00, "🥺🥺😭 I miss that man😭." What man🤨? *went back to check* Oh😯, Obama. Yeah, he was fantastic! I miss him too, and I'M NOT EVEN AMERICAN!! 41:23, so I heard "unHAND ME?!" And bursted into laughter🤣🤣🤣. But it actually said, "Is that your HAND, Minnie?!" Which is still funny🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Part 2: 1:59:10, "You have empathy!" EXACTLY!!! The Doctor doesn't kill, unless it's his very last option. If he can save someone, he will definitely try! The Master, he has no remorse! He doesn't care for anyone but himself!! 2:19:20. The mysterious lady Wilf has kept seeing... is a TIME LORD🤯?! I would've never guessed that😲😐!! 2:23:02, "NO!! NO!!!" No, omg, NO God No! I can feel the water works is starting🥺 2:24:18, "Except it's going critical." Shit. I had skipped this too. I know how he dies now. Ah, I'm tearing up🥺😢 2:34:30-33, "His name is Alonso?" *Alonso enters* OH😃! Anyone remember when 10 asked if Torchwood had an Alonso? It was so 10 could say "Allonsy Alonso" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. They brought back that joke! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2:44:53, "🥺I don't wanna go🥺" Ah🥺🥺🥺. That's why he's fighting this regeneration! He want to keep this face and personality. He doesn't want to let it go😢😭. David delivered that line, ✨️perfectly✨️ 2:46:10, "I'm a GIRL!" No you're not🤣. Your hair is, longer yes, but not girl long. You know what I mean? *15 seconds later* "Crashing😃!" Are you excited about that?! Bro, you're falling from outerspace!! Also, Morgan, your face at 2:46:31 = Priceless🤣👏🏼🤣👏🏼🤣👏🏼🤣 Final edit: I will miss seeing David as the Doctor. Ngl, he's my favorite of all the Doctor's I have seen, which is not many😬😅. Now it's Matt Smith's time, and ooooooh dear. I don't remember everything he has done in this show, but I remember certain things. Creepy things. Anyways, this was an emotional roller-coaster of a reaction I've watched, but I loved it. See ya later Morgan🫂. Bye👋🏼

Julie Moum

1:59:33 yeah but that empathy is also why he regrets... the one difference is the pain he lets him self feel

T0m4002

Geoff noble was Donna's dad, but he died before the series began. The woman is the doctor's mother.

Neil

I have always said this, but wilf didn’t knock 4 times, he knocked 16 times! It shouldn’t have counted!

Fishy

You could watch the episodes where 10th doctor were in Sarah jane adventures. The 11th doctor also makes an appearance revealing what the 10th was doing while holding in his regeneration to show he was checking everyone who's ever been with him. But yeah he hold in the regeneration for a long time even though it's very painful and could have killed him holding it off so long

An important note to make about the ,,I don't wanna go" line... 10 is canonically the youngest incarnation of the Doctor, at only 2 or 3 years. While 9 had only just the one year with Rose, he had adventures before he met her (all the Doctors had/have off-screen adventures af course). And while 8 only had the TV Movie, that was the Doctor that (mainly) fought in the Last Great Time War.

,,You never would you coward" - The Master to the Doctor... Way back in Series 1 finale ,,What are you a coward or a murderer?" - The Dalek ,,Coward, anyday" - 9.

“I don’t wanna go.” The line that destroyed us all’ve us, so you’re not alone in this Morgan. 😭 This regeneration scene was the most brutal for new fans. David’s performance with the last line was so great. He said that he knew nothing before hand what the last line would be and he just found it perfect. 👏👏👏 Plus, the music in that scene was phenomenal. It’s called “Vale Decem”, which means “Farewell 10”. 💜

Liam Gradwell

Another fun fact: John Simm (the Master's actor) had to dress up in all those outfits after he became humanity... And still had to act like the Master, insanity and all while wearing DRESSES.

A few fun-facts about these episodes: 1. What Wilf says to the Doctor on the spaceship about a war that he fought in, it wasn't JUST in the scrips it was a real life experience that Bernard Cribbins - R.I.P. - his actor lived throught. 2. Ten's swan song is called Vale Decem (Farewell Ten - you can find full translations to the song on youtube) and it is canonically sang by the Ood to 10 as he regenerates into 11. 3. Donna's full name is ,,Donna Temple-Noble", so Donna means Lady and Temple means Time (both in Latin I believe) and Noble is a semi-sinonym for Lord --> Lady Time-Lord - or as is more commonly refferred to as a Time Lady (a.k.a. she is STILL ,,TheDoctorDonna")

David's song has ended, but the story never ends.

Before David destroyed us with ,,No nightingales" and ,,I forgive you"... He destroyed us a decade and a half before with ,,I don't wanna go"
