Okay, can we all consider the fact varion IS *14* . CORONA GET BETTER SECURITY!! Sure, he's mega talented and is incredibly smart but take a second to think that an entire kingdom nearly fell TO A CHILD. Genuinely the king has 0 room to be telling rapunzel how to be a good queen when he SUCKS at being a ruler. He doesn't deal with threats, puts his kingdom in danger, doesn't listen to even his own FAMILY and is awful at strategy/delegation.

Yeah, Fred is earning a one way ticket to Shady Pines. lol If only they had known the healing incantation, they never would have had to uproot the sundrop like that, but only Gothel knew.

I think the fact that they got Alan Menken to work on the song is a huge part of why they are so amazing plus the fact that they got the original voice actors for rapunzel and Eugene combined with Broadway performers for some of the other big roles. If king Frederick has no haters, I am dead. He frustrates me to no end and I feel like he makes a lot of selfish decisions when it comes to rapunzel. I couldn't forgive him by the end of this season, but I can see why rapunzel would. Also, wanted to mention it always causes me pain to see rapunzel paint in her tower after her dad locks her in. She has to resort to the coping mechanism she used to cope with her abuse her whole life in order to process it happening again. 😭 I always feel bad for varian because he is (as you pointed out) still just a kid without any adult supervision or support. My biggest complaint about how rapunzel and her parents/friends handled varian is that it took them weeks after queen for a day for anyone to go check on varian and they didn't even go to check on him really. That was weeks of a child with no one to look after him. My fix it would be for Cass to have gone with varian back in queen for a day. He could've at least felt supported, known he wasn't alone, and then rapunzel could've come after the storm. But enough of me ranting, I loved the reaction and can't wait to see what you think of season 2.

2025-05-27 20:59:48 +0000 UTCReady as I'll ever be was my favorite song out of ANY show for the longest time. It is just. SO DAMN GOOD! It is also my second favorite song of this show. Make of that what you will XD. I honestly don't think Varian was able to think rationally at all here anymore. He spent so long all by himself, reliving the tragedy, fueling his anger and kinda being his own echo chamber with no one to talk to or to help him. He was so far gone, no reasoning could have stopped him. Tragedy and trauma can change people as we know and for him, it changed him for the worst. A hurt child who crossed line after line because he really felt like he had nothing left to lose. I liked how Eugene was the first one to yell "I'M READY" when Cassandra took the lead. They might bicker a lot, but when push comes to shove, they stand by each other. And I agree with you, Frederic was SO out of line and I definitely wouldn't have forgiven him as quickly as Rapunzel did. At least at the very end, he acknowledged his mistakes. Don't worry, you're not crazy. Or if you are, then we all are. Also, love your pride merch! As an ace, I really dig the cake :D

Because this was my intro song, I never got to experience realizing Varian was becoming a villain since I already knew his villain song, I just didn't have the context for it. This song is still my favorite song of the series. It's just so good and has so many amazing singers in it that are all saying the same words yet all with different perspectives on it. 2025-05-27 16:05:07 +0000 UTCone quote that always comes to mind whenever i think of characters like varian is "people don't make good choices, they have good choices". as the audience, it's extremely difficult for us to fully see varian as the villain, because we see the full context of what he went through and how he did try to get help at first, but was completely ignored. no one even went to check in on him after the storm. you can't expect someone who was treated as poorly as he was to not lash out. even though we know it was never anyone's intention to make him feel isolated and abandoned, it's easy to tell why he felt that way, and him resorting to force in order to save his dad was a result of that pent up frustration. he did it because, the way he saw it, this was all he COULD do. a better choice didn't exist for him. he's such a great character...i totally understand getting those mixed emotions from him :c
