I've been waiting for you to get to Blink! It's one of my favorite episodes, too. Also, I write about tv shows and mental health and stuff, and I did an article a while back that has a lot about the Weeping Angels. I was gonna share a link, but realized there are some DW spoilers in it, so I'm just gonna c/p the non-spoiler Blink parts here, in case you're interested in how I see the Weeping Angels as a metaphor for depression. from "Depression Monsters Abound; TV can teach us how to fight them" I’m having a rough day emotionally. A variety of issues comes together and I find myself crying, feeling isolated, feeling frustrated by time lost, like some monster (Dementor) is slowly stealing my life from me and I’m powerless to stop it. After my shower, I put on one of my favorite T-shirts; a cartoon drawing of the TARDIS and 10th Doctor from Doctor Who, with glow-in-the-dark Weeping Angels around it. It’s comfortable, which is why I thought I chose it, but only moments after putting it on, I realized it’s more. My favorite stories have always been a comfort to me, just as they’ve challenged me, taught me, and encouraged me to grow. It seems extra appropriate that I’d be wearing my Weeping Angels shirt as I’m writing about depression. In case you don’t watch Doctor Who, the Weeping Angels are life-sized angel statues at first glance, often with their hands over their eyes. When no one is looking at them, however, they come to life and move toward people with the goal of sending their victim into the past and feeding off the time energy of the life they would have led. They basically kill by sucking away the future people were supposed to have. It’s a layered metaphor for depression, really. They are quantum locked. They can't be seen in their true state, even by others of their kind (as seen in 'Blink' when four of them froze in a square after the TARDIS disappeared.) They can do most anything, go anywhere, but they can't interact with others, ever. Depression/anxiety can often feel much like that. Like, even when you're in the same room with people, sharing an activity, you still don't feel connected. It's lonely as hell. Being attacked by them is another layer to the metaphor. An Angel touches you and you get lost in the past. You're stuck there, no way to continue your life or connect with your loved ones anymore. You just have to trudge through, trying to get back to where you were when this damned Angel got in your way. In Doctor Who, their victims die in the past. The only way to keep them from moving is to keep looking at them, without even blinking. But if you expend all your energy on staring at the statue, you can’t live your life.

I don't know if you've been informed yet, but Torchwood, one of the spinoff shows, heavily revolved around Jack and is set in Cardiff. The finale of Torchwood's first season is meant to lead right into Utopia as it ends with Jack hearing the TARDIS engines. ALSO- while yeah the name "The Master" does have some... interesting connotations, I'm pretty sure the origin of his name way back in Classic Who was based on a "masters degree" to pair with the Doctor's "doctorate degree" lol. You shouldn't know much about the Master in Modern Who, but he was heavily features with the 3rd Doctor and the 5th Doctor back in Classic Who, usually at odds with each other though very rarely they collaborated against a common enemy.

Blink: 0:55, "I'm nervous, cause I know this episode freaks a lot of people out." Oh you have no idea! This one gave me nightmares for weeks! I wasn't able to look at statues, without feeling uncomfortable. Which is why I've chosen to see this part of your reaction, in broad daylight! 5:50, "I was waiting for a jumpscare!" Yeah, me too. That's the worst part of this episode. You know there's gonna be jumpscares, (yes plural) but you don't when, and I hate that! 8:30, "AAAAAAH!" What happened👀?! I was a different man back then. IT IS JACK!!!" Yes! Jacky boy is back, baby😝 1:12:10. Look at the boy. Of course we're going exploring. It's the f*cking end of the universe! OF COURSE, WE GOTTA SEE IT🤩!! "Not even the Time Lords went out this far" then let's check it out😁 1:13:05, "He's dead* *GAAAAASP, AAAAA😱!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 1:24:10. Captain Jack is really charming and flirty, I'll give him that. Plus the fact that he's either Bisexual or Pansexual, or maybe both, Idk. Anyways, it's bold of him to just start flirting with anyone, without know if they'll be interested or not. Or does Jack have like a, sixth sense for that kinda stuff, hmm🤔 1:26:55, "The hand that got f*cking chopped off... it came back!" Yes. It's crazy. No, it's MADNESS!!! 1:32:22, "What is going on with him?" Yeah, you might want to pay attention or remember that sound. The sound of drums 1:40:00, "No" and then that smile😃😁. The little, rush of happiness from braking a single rule. Oh Chantho, I've been there😊 1:44:00, "So whatever Jack is, he can't die. But why? I'm glad, cause Jack's great! But- but how does he keep living through this?" I can't say what he is or even how, but you'll find out, by the end of this season. 1:48:00, oh nevermind. It was revealed here. Rose brought Jack back, permanently. 1:52:45, oh for Christ's sake, this time, it's not a dalek! Professor Yana isn't a dalek!!! 1:53:55, "It seems like he's a LITTLE EVIL, in that watch!" You're putting the pieces🧩 together 1:54:28, "Is he a Time Lord then?" YES!! YOU CONNECTED THE PIECES🧩!!! 1:58:20, "Who TF is the Master?" Him, apparently. No we haven't met him before this episode. He's a new villain. Not just an enemy of the week, but a real freaking threat! 2:00:00. Yup, he's stealing the Tardis! That F*CKER! 2:03:15(hopefully last edit), "What a f*cking cliffhanger." Yeah. That was, a lot! What's his (Master) deal? I know, but you'll have wait and find out in the next DW reaction. I can't wait to see that one next week😁

GREAT react! Loved this video. Really enjoyed riding the roller coaster of these two episodes with you. They're both stellar (and the next two are pretty good too) and in my top episodes of Doctor Who. The actor that did Yana was superb, the return of Jack amazing (John Barrowman is amazing too, if you don't know anything about him, have some googling, you'll enjoy it) and Blink is widely regarded as one of the top tier episodes to this day. Really looking forward to seeing next week!

Blink - It really does feel like a backdoor pilot, "Sally Sparrow the Ghost Investigator" - The angels are real... in that they're people, not props :p. Latex skin and fibreglass clothing painted up to look like stone. Behind the scenes footage looks so creepy when you see them hanging out together on a break. - That's the same Stephen Moffat who made Inside Man. - "It's a bit ITV" - ITV is a TV channel with lots of detective dramas. - "Timey wimey" became a classic Who line. - That drink you keep sipping from looks nice. Slushie or tea? - "The windows are the wrong size." - they changed the windows on the Tardis from how they used to look in the pre-2000s Who. I think they end up changing them again. - The cop thing did not age well, even if he is hot. - "It's the same rain." - kind of a genius way to convey the gulf in time these people have suffered through. - "You've only got 17 DVDs?" - Doctor Who showing its age. That's what people used to do in the old days before streaming, have these huge cartons and sleeve cases of DVD discs they'd cart around and trade with each other. Utopia - You didn't miss anything about Saxon or the Master. So this is where growing up with old Who benefits you by letting you absorb it via cultural osmosis. The Master is a classic villain like the Daleks or Cybermen, and we always knew he was out there somewhere waiting to be re-introduced on the show. Short version, he's an evil Timelord who wants to rule everything. He is the anti-Doctor, the Doctor's mirror image, the Doctor if he was evil. In the old shows he usually had a goatee and was big on disguises and hypnosis. The Doctor and he are childhood friends, "brothers from another mother" so to speak, and have an intense rivalry/obsession/love for each other spanning all of time and space. He is Catra without any of her redeeming qualities. - The actor who plays the regenerated Master, John Simm, was quite a big get at the time. He was a rising star on an immensely popular TV show. If he had appeared on screen before now it would have drawn attention to him as the most important new character in the series. - To sum up Jack's status, he was having his own sci-fi adventures in Cardiff, and he always kept this hand in a jar around (which fans immediately guessed was the Doctor's). At the end of Torchwood Season 1, the jar lights up and Jack starts running out the door towards a blue object in the distance. Oh, and he's been immortal since Rose resurrected him. But he's human, like you or me. - We knew Prof Yana's character was important because they had Derek Jacobi (the Metatron) playing him. He's a famous Shakespearean actor who pals around with people like Ian McKellen and Judi Dench - When I first saw ChanTho as a kid, I was smitten. Even now she's still a cutie pie. Wish they'd added her as a companion. Just make up some technobabble about a perception filter so people don't notice the carapace or mandibles. - Timelords are low-level psychics with their mind meld abilities and stuff. Like the Doctor said in Gridlock, if one was around he'd just know, so it's no wonder Yana is reacting to the Doctor's presence with dizzy spells. - 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4  - If you see overlapping squiggly circles, like on the fob watch or the Tardis screen, that's Gallifreyan writing. - When Timelords regenerate they're a bit manic and hyper for the next few hours. - I cannot overstate the power of Timelords. They see the Tardis as laughably obsolete and the Doctor as more of a vagrant.

The backstory that we got for Jack when he first showed up was that he was basically just a human guy from the 51st century

Blink has such a great concept and it's so well done, and Utopia has such a great plot twists, your reactions were so great :D Excited to see your reactions to the twists in the next two episodes! The Master is a character from the older Doctor Who, so he and the Doctor have a long history! And I don't think we'd seen Saxon's face yet, he'd just been mentioned :D

The Master is from classic Doctor Who, and is right up there with the Daleks and Cybermen as one of the most iconic villains in the show. So the reveal was made for fans of the old show who collectively had a massive 'oh shit' moment when he revealed who he was. Also, if you're wondering why the Weeping Angels sometimes stand still even when no character is looking at them...that's because YOU'RE looking at them.

Something I learned from Doctor Who’s Easter eggs and bonus features on the DVD is that the Weeping Angels were played by ballet dancers in really good costumes and makeup

Yeassss I’ve been waiting for this one. In gonna absolutely horrify myself because I am to this day terrified of weeping angels. It’s gonna be torture waiting for the last two episodes lol. So mean of you to cut the three parter in half, but I get it and can’t wait 😆 Also I never once noticed the metatron was in this. I haven’t watched these episodes of doctor who since before I’ve watched good omens. Can’t wait to see your reactions lol
