It turns out the very plain area where I was born and raised has been getting some attention across Japan lately.
One reason is that it ended up becoming the town that recorded the highest temperature in the country.
The other—strictly speaking, this happened in the neighboring town—is that over 200 luxury cars parked in an underground garage were submerged during a torrential downpour a few days ago.
As for the first one, this kind of thing absolutely didn’t happen when I was a kid. When did it get this hot…?
Not long ago, when I visited my parents, they greeted me with a self-deprecating “Welcome to the hottest place in Japan!”
The car flooding, too—none of us had ever experienced rain like that. It was shocking to see a place I know so well under water.
Sure, you could call it a reminder not to neglect preparedness, but it’s hard to anticipate something like this. It really hits close to home.
Just between us, I feel like the scenery of my hometown looks a bit like where Itsuha-chan and the others live. Well, that happens—it's a fairly typical rural town, after all.😎
