In Japan, we have a long-standing culture of onsen (hot springs) and sento (public bathhouses).
These are large communal baths where everyone soaks in the hot water completely naked (of course, men and women are separated).
Ancient Rome is said to have had a similar tradition, but it still seems quite unique to foreign visitors. I often see tourists carefully checking the rules and etiquette before entering.
That said, while we’re used to it, I imagine for someone unfamiliar, the idea of strangers quietly washing their bodies and soaking naked side by side might feel a bit uncomfortable.
Still, you could say this bathing culture is essential to the classic “fanservice episodes” in anime and manga!
Japan is home to countless onsen spots, and I recently visited one of the best—Ōita Prefecture, known for having some of the most abundant hot spring sources in the country.

What surprised me was that the airport itself had a footbath—a public bath where you soak only your feet to relieve fatigue. (And yes, it’s free!)

Even small business hotels in the area often have large communal baths fed by natural hot springs from underground.
It’s easy and accessible, and onsen are often said to have skin-beautifying effects—so I don’t think it was just my imagination that the locals had such beautiful skin.
One day, I’d love to share a bathing scene with Neneko and the others with all of you.
