Whenever I meet people from outside Japan who are learning Japanese, there’s something I always notice.
It’s that their voices, regardless of age or gender, become incredibly cute when they speak Japanese.
Apparently, this is because the pronunciation of Japanese tends to result in a higher pitch. On the other hand, I’ve noticed that when we speak English, our voices tend to drop to a lower pitch compared to usual.
Even VTubers from English-speaking regions, who usually have a very cool impression, sound incredibly cute when speaking Japanese.
For those of us who are used to Japanese, languages like English or others might come across as having a much stronger tone.
I imagine the heroines in our manga would also have different voice qualities depending on whether they were speaking English or Japanese.
I wonder what kind of voices you hear when you imagine them. It’s such an interesting thought!

2024-12-25 06:52:23 +0000 UTCInteresting observation. I think I have the opposite. When practicing speaking Japanese, my voice lowers. I believe it is because my points of reference for speaking it come from playing the Yakuza game series and listening to Kiryu talking lol
