Iray server was no-go due the pricing, so I bought a Xeon desktop with RTX 2070. I did some benchmarking today and oddly this beast was washed out by my Laptop :D
Anyway, I created a test scene to do the benchmarking. The GTX 1070 renders 60 iterations per 7 minutes. The RTX 2070 renders 173 Iterations, and this freakin laptop beast pumps it up to 186 iterations per 7 minutes. The test images are raw renders, without any PS work, which boosts them like 70% better. So now, for the first time, I have a mini-render farm :)
Yep, I can render VR videos now!

It does answer my question or bafflement in that as impressive as laptops are, they still will not outshine a real desktop. I wanted CPU / system `power` as I am not a gamer, though the people that built this system for me did put in the RTX whatever card. It is the first / ever sys I have had built really because I wanted the best and fastest available. lol, not keen on the glass side and `glowing` colour schemes but ah well looks just like somebody put your laptop keyboard in my case, I switched it off. Actually, its about the same price as this monitor which is a bit of an overkill. I was only trying to think of ways to lessen workload to give you more `quality time`. All the best ..

My laptop (MSI GT76 Titan DT 95G, review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkq5o4P6Mhg) has desktop CPU and RTX 2080 GPU, it's freakin heavy, it has 2 transformers, so I ordered second power sources to office. The laptop is about 4 kg and the transformers are 3 kg... Not cool to have all that stuff at my backpack when scootering to the office :D The rendering is still EXTREMELY slow, as I can render one eye with my laptop and another eye with the new Xeon PC (RTX2070). I had to duplicate my DAZ installation to the new PC so it figures out what to do; that was about 50 gigs of content. I wish there would be a way to send stuff to all of you guys to render overnight and we could have a full video done overnight...

I did briefly look at Iray servers to get a little understanding and rack-mounted systems. I also wondered about pooling unused capacity on people's systems who have cards. I am not a `gamer` but there are a lot that are and they also sleep... sometimes .. bless .. But if it all works, great.
