Unbroken Dev Diary #1: LI Interaction

Just like I do for every first $5 update of a cycle this one is open to everybody so you all can get a little taste of what we in here. Now without further ado let us jump in.

One of the main goals of Unbroken is to make the LI's feel a little more dynamic than they were in The Author.  To this end almost every character will have at least three, or in some cases more, point variables.  While this certainly adds more complexity to coding, I think that the end result will be worth the time and effort.

While avoiding spoilers, the lovely young Amrit (pictured above) will be used to mildly illustrate my point.

Amrit is young, with a healthy sex drive and her interest will be stated fairly early on. Of course if you don't reciprocate then you're free to reject her advances. As time goes on treating her as a friend instead of a potential partner will begin to effect her dialogue morphing it to a more friendly and less flirty. Of course the reverse will hold true, the more you flirt the more she will.  This of course will change your relationship and her ending, but it isn't the end all be all.

As her coach your character will influence her on her path to greatness, being a good coach will help her improve, being a bad or potentially even abusive one will have consequences. This will be independent of her romance points, so you can friendzone her and help her improve or be romancing her and stunting her growth in other areas. This will lead to more dynamic endings with her as a character there are four possibility's based on that example alone, however I can promise that there are more based on the stats of other characters, but digging into that will head into spoiler territory.

What I've written above can apply to every single LI in the game, as well as the MC himself, hopefully giving you more of a feeling of control over how everybody's fates end up. After the first release I think this will be a bit more exciting in practice over my explanation, but hopefully this gave you a little interest in where I'm going.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I'll leave it here or this will turn into War and Peace. I'll be back on Wednesday with a regular update and next Sat I'll be back to discuss a key element of the next game and how I'm looking to implement it.  Until then stay safe out there and let a loved one know how important they are to you.

Sláinte!

Thanks for the update! All sounds great to me and interested to see how it works out when the first chapter is released! Have to ask though, wouldn't it be good and desirable if you could parlay a weekly patreon update into a great russian novel? Seems to me a massive error in judgement to stop writing if writing just a little bit more would mean you'd all of a sudden written War and Peace!!

I'm probably in the minority but too complicated games are not my thing. I like it simpler - the branches and routes in "The Author" were ok for me, but already more than I usually play. More complexity sounds maybe great for a game, but I actually want to enjoy the story and not "chase points" (sounds weird for someone who made a mod with cheat functions...). Nevertheless, good luck for this project.
