So...I have a bit of a unique perspective from the average fan/a lot in common with Dean. The character is less than three months older than me...so if he were a real person, we would have grown up in the same time, experienced the same events (world events and such...the society around us...not trying to say I grew up hunting monsters!) The biggest thing, though...is both he and I were raised by a particular brand of human...a USMC Vietnam veteran. Those guys saw and did shit that broke many of them...and a lot of that trauma was passed down to their kids. In the 1st season, John admits that at some point he stopped acting like their dad and started acting like their drill sergeant (which is one of my big pet peeves with the show...the Corps doesn't have drill sergeants, they have drill instructors and anyone writing a Marine character should not make that mistake!) I know what that's like...and "tough love" doesn't quite cover it. (For the record, I heard a lot of the things that the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket says...years before that film came out...while R. Lee Ermey said that he was trying to portray a bad D.I., the fact that I was hearing things like that before they were on the radar of society at large can give you an idea of what it was like back in the day.) To this day, I have no flight, freeze, or fawn nervous system responses... I'm all fight. (I can't go to haunted houses or the like because if someone jumps out at me, I perceive it as a threat and respond accordingly...usually with a throat punch because that's what my dad taught me) and struggle to accept any sort of praise because it's not something I got a lot of. No matter how well I did, it was never as good as it could have been (note...not that it wasn't good enough...just that no matter how good it was, there was always room for improvement.) So, yeah, odds are that that was the first time a father figure was like that with Dean. I know I had to wait until my dad was dying to hear that he was proud of me...that he was hard on me because he wanted me to be prepared for whatever life threw at me, etc. Even after working through a lot of it, I *still* hear my dad's voice in my head on the regular telling me that I could do something better, faster, etc. I could probably write a whole-ass paper on both why John Winchester doesn't deserve as much hate as he gets (some folks are rabid with the JW hate) and how being raised by a Marine Vietnam vet in the era of latchkey kids forged just as much of Dean's personality as being raised by a hunter did.

A couple of years a go my father died, since then watching this show, as much as I like it, is a realy difficult thing for me. But watching it with you is a real joy and it helps me alot to enjoy this show again and think about the good times with my dad. Thank you

Holy shhii the way Jensen goes from angry to the shameful for pushing Bobby in a split second was incredible ! “He’s my brother.” 😭 Sam definitely had a different look after killing Jake ! Then YED telling Dean “you of all people know what’s dead should stay dead” damn returning Dean’s own line back to him! *Also reminds me of a movie (don’t wanna spoil it which one) they say “sometimes dead is better.” John mf Winchester !! Love that Dean didn’t say a line he just shot YED!! Love the callback to the end of the first episode with the “we got work to do” but this time it’s said with a smile ! Yes the Bobby and Dean scene is one of the best of this season and probably even the series ! Great acting from Jensen and Jim ! Rip Ash , he got burnt to ASHes… 😂 sorry probably too soon The next few seasons finale should live up to the expectations these past 2 have set. Shoutout to the amazing Supernatural fandom! 5+ years since it’s ended and still has more likes and comments than Stranger Things or Welcome To Darry here on Patreon!

I want to start season 3, damnit, but I will wait. I promised myself I would watch this entire series with you guys. Having so much fun!
