Can't wait for November

It's important to remember we only have part 1. Part 2 will reveal most of your questions answers.

Great reaction! Think of the movies like this! Basically Wizard of Oz movie is the propaganda and Wicked is the true story.

Oh, I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think it’s safe to say the torch scene is more of a representation of the end of the image created for Elphaba—this Wicked Witch, this "monster"—as she's burning down that symbol, its not the Elfaba she knows. Plus, she needs to be fake and hide her true feelings; you can tell in a few moments that she's not really feeling what she's saying. I don’t want to spoil part two, but lots of things will be revealed. However, yes, Glinda is Elphaba's friend in the end, and she understands that they are both different and will follow different paths from now on, but they still wish happiness for each other. Sadly, Glinda seeks validation from people who don’t validate her and thinks there’s still a solution while standing with the Wizard. Elphaba doesn’t care because she’s used to not being validated or supported. But who knows? Things might change with time... ( changed for good ;) )

oh no! this reaction was so painful. seeing you guys not warm up to glinda is so sad 😭 this is not at all spoilers, but she really IS Elphaba's friend after the dance scene. did she burn the witch statue...or was she GIVEN the torch to do it in front of all these folks expecting her to....watch her face and her EYES again during that first song....just a thought.

Wicked is more of a fan fiction prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It's not canon. I think with Glinda, she'll be a pawn to The Wizard and Madame Morrible because she has no powers and they need someone to be a propaganda witch and the opposite to Elphaba who actually has powers, but is now running independent, they'll use Glinda. The only powers Glinda has is being popular. All I can is that Part 2 will be darker and the director said they're will be "consequences" to the Wicked character's actions.

The silver slippers are the original shoes from the classic book. They can't use the ruby slippers because their owned by Warner Bros. and that also owns the classic 1939 Wizard of Oz film so it's not public domain yet. Part 2 comes out November and they filmed Part 1 and Part 2 all together. Part 2 is basically The Wizard of Oz but focusing more on Elphaba and Glinda. We'll also see Dorothy in the film as well. Fun facts: they planted 9 million tulips for Munchkinland. Everything in that film was built on set, The Shiz University, Emerald City, Munchkinland and even the train.

Oz 1939 is the story from Oz’s perspective of what happened. Wicked is the actual story from Galinda and Elphaba’s perspective. There is a theory out there that Oz 1939 does exist in the Wicked Universe as a propaganda film similar to the posters and the burning statue.

Joel Miller

The movie is based off the Broadway play Wicked and the Novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch. The book was written by Gregory McGuire when the original Wizard of Oz books by L Frank Baum were released in the Public Domain. The 1939 film is still not in the Public Domain so the book is inspired by elements of the film (the Green skin in particular was from the movie, they just can’t use the same shade as the 1939 film. The reason why it’s Part 1 is because the Director felt there needed to have more time to expand on the backstory to the characters. Part 1 covered the first Act. The “To Be Continued” section is where Act 1 ends on in the Broadway show and an intermission is held. The list of Easter Eggs from the books and 1939 film. When the kids the civilians of Munchkin Land that the witch is dead you get to eat a part of “Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead” from the 1939 film. You get to see a glimpse of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion during the opening Overture of “No One Mourns the Wicked.” During scene with the caged lion in Whiz University, we are treated to a scene exclusive to the movie with the Poppyseeds that put the Wicked Witch used in the 1939 film to put Dorothy and the others to sleep. Did anyone notice the lion was placed in a picnic basket on a bike similar to how Miss Gulch tried to destroy Toto in the 1939 book? There is speculation that this lion that Elphaba and Fiyero rescued is the same Cowardly Lion we meet in the book and film. One Short Day Cameos: During the song “One Short Day” there are a few cameos. The one who introduces the “history of Oz” is Winnie Holzman, the writer of the Broadway book. The actresses with singing pets is Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith, the original Broadway Elphaba and Glinda respectively. You get to hear Kristen sing a brief part of “No One Mourns the Wicked” and Idina sing the iconic Battle Cry from “Defying Gravity” during this scene. Finally, the person who says “The Wizard will see you now is Stephen Schwartz who is the song writer for the Broadway and film versions Wicked (he also did the lyrics for the Disney movies Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Enchanted) The final Easter Egg is the Unlimited theme which could be heard throughout the movie and in “Defying Gravity” is a familiar tune. This is actually the first seven notes of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Stephen Schwartz’s reasoning is “There is no more of an aspiration song than Somewhere Over the Rainbow’”
