Not responsible for the ugly preview images lmao, HERE IS THE RELEASED CUT of the Space Jam skit for FGTeeV.
Duddz and two little boys fall down a hole and play b-ball with aliums! Fun fact: we had to change the colors of the littlest boy last second because we apparently didn't know which son he was supposed to be.

Now that we had weeded out an animator who wasn't a team player and found some more who WERE, I got to do two fun Looney Tunes projects with a crew! Of course I would've loved to see a version that's totally my final art, but it's pretty cool how much having a crew changed the outcome this time in a positive way, I'd say. The end result is different from my usual look but a look I like nonetheless.

[In a weird choice, FGTeev hires me and a small crew of others to animate his infant child gunning down an old west town. Sort of a baby video, but with a lot of simulated Nerf gun violence]
Here is the released cut of Down with the Pew! Unfortunately, it's a bit different than I would've cleaned it up but considering the botched submission from a co-animator, and the last minute replacement Tom having to finish the project in a rush, it's to be expected.

Finally adding the released version of this, didn't realize I never did! Can't remember if anything changed between my final cut and this but I still like this video.

Happy to announce I've been working diligently on new Ferrets cartoons. It's a while off because my plan is to make a 10 episode season before release (wish me luck, lol), but the first cartoon is about 70% animated already. Another goal for this project is to submit some of the shorts to film festivals so I'm really trying to make it feel like a classic theatrical cartoon. It's looking great so far and I'm very proud! I hope it can hold up to this challenge. The image above is a promo I
made featuring the lead characters in season 1.
In addition to the self-produced season, I was also approached by a group of young animators who loved the original Ferrets cartoons, and they proposed serving as a free crew on a special extra episode I'm directing. The goal with that one is to make it as much of a legitimate TV pilot as possible. So technically two episodes in production! I also have about 20 episodes storyboarded already, haha. I've been busy busy.
I have a new freelance gig so I'm taking a brief break from this but should be back to it in a couple of weeks. I also have a few old freelance projects I haven't posted yet.
Enjoy these preview screenshots from the early scenes in the self-produced episode:

Last fall, I had the pleasure of doing cleanup animation for a Michael and James cartoon by my friend Jon Lopez! My scene begins around 9:12 and ends around 10 min.

I animated any shot with Tequila The Cat and The Nameless Squirrel moving!
Last December, also thanks to Jon Lopez, I had the pleasure of working on an Eddsworld holiday short, featuring Edd Gould's sister as his genderbent counterpart Ell. I used to talk to Edd a little back in the day since we were both out there posting animations with Edd in the title, haha. Rest in peace, Edd, it was an honor to finally work on your cartoon.
I was brought in because they had a specific realistic flow they wanted for the scenes of Ell's cat Tequila. Both cats that appear in Eddsworld, I learned, are based on real cats the family has had in the past, which is sweet, so I also wanted to pay tribute as much as possible and put some care into it.

Here is the released version of Smashbits' Metaverse animation. Some sound effects helped more than others in my opinion. The owner of Smashbits was shocked that it was a bit of a disappointment but seems obvious to me that an animation about Mark Zuckerberg lecturing you is a gamble. :P
(sorry for sharing it late after the release-- besides being insanely busy, this just ain't one of my fav projects so showing the slightly more produced version was a low priority for me, hehe)

Now we’d like to fill you in on what we are producing next! This post is focused on our original content, but I would not count us out of making fanstuff (especially Ed, Edd n Eddy) just yet. It always makes me a little anxious to tease anything I'm working on or planning, so I apologize for how slow production may end up being!
First of all, I’m proud to announce that we have begun production on a new Those Friggin Ferrets special! Our independent web cartoon about two young adult ferret siblings is finally on its way back! Intended for Youtube and Newgrounds (and of course bonus features here on Patreon ahead of time, when those are ready), we are essentially trying to achieve the feeling of a classic theatrical short in the Ferrets’ longest story ever.

The special, “This Friggin’ Quarantine,” starts in March 2020 and tracks Hattie and Garth’s lives through lockdown after they find out that all ferrets are naturally immunocompromised. This special will weave the rest of the Ferrets’ world into a story that keeps them 6 feet apart from everyone, while also widening the scope of the original shorts. Taking advantage of how isolated Hattie and Garth already were in the original trilogy, this quickly becomes a character-focused story that will test their siblingly bond, while they try their best to keep each other sane. It might even be slightly educational!
Instantly dated, we want it to feel like an intimate journey through shared experience. We believe that it will be a great opportunity to display how much we’ve grown as artists since our original three Ferrets shorts (way back at the launch of this Patreon!). I am currently working on the digital storyboards after work most days, and after that will come the animatic, then voices, animation/backgrounds, SFX, music, and the final editing. Wish us luck making this homemade short film!

A quick refresher on this series: me and my spouse (who will now be credited as E. Lordi) introduced Those Friggin’ Ferrets in 2014. The shorts were pretty bare bones back then, basically tests to get a feel for the style and only featuring a quarter of the characters. The three shorts we did ended up being the only ones completed (3 others were mid-production at the time and still exist in my backups), and we put it on pause once we had to make time for our day jobs.
We had already been talking for these past few years, planning to reintroduce our Ferrets with their now fully developed cast and setting, but when the pandemic began and started to feel endless, it made us think it would feel awkward to restart this parody of reality with crowd scenes and characters getting in each other’s faces, so we storyboarded and wrote a new special all throughout the pandemic and now post-vaccination, processing our experiences. We hope you all enjoy it when it’s ready!
AFTER THE SPECIAL:
Our intention is that, at a certain point in production, E. will take over with as much as possible, so that I can start production another Ferrets episode. When the special is released, we hope to be prepared with a season of 10 episodes (returning to the original 3-5 minute short format)-- these are episodes that we have essentially been workshopping together for years and we are so excited to get to these!!
OTHER STUFF SIMULTANEOUSLY:
Next, I want to talk about how I’m still going to apply occasionally to industry work. Mainly, I am intrigued by the recently announced CARTOON CARTOONS Revival. I have no idea how they intend to get applications for that, but I'm on the look out! I have been coming up with ideas for shorts/series/characters for a very long time, so as soon as submissions are open, I've got ideas!
I’d like to try to pitch to them my HOOP-A-JOOP pilot short film (the aquarium short), my WOLFPACK short film (with the gumball machine, I believe I posted these a few years back), possibly one of our FERRETS ideas, and since they are allegedly accepting adult-demographic pitches, I’d like to try something based on my NEAR MIDNIGHT concept, which I have barely posted about but is constructed out of my old OLIVE and DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME concepts.
Lastly, that brings me back to my Hoop-a-Joop aquarium short film, which I started production on forever ago and then had to pause for freelance. I have done a new background for this short recently, so I still consider it in production, but the reason this is on the lowest backburner is to try and pitch it to Cartoon Cartoons. Either way, if that falls through, I will go back to self-producing that and finish it independently, possibly working on it during the Ferrets season. It is entirely possible that all of those ideas for shorts could be self-produced in the future.

How many of you have been fans of my EEnE content long enough to remember my lost SUPER-ED project? In case you haven’t heard of it before, here's a post I once made with a lot of art from it: https://book-o-scams.tumblr.com/post/123566550888/as-i-was-discussing-with-one-of-the-anons-one
Started back in 2009 when I was finishing high school, SuperEd was intended to be a Bartkira-style reimagining of Superbad (no script, just animating over the audio for the full film, Superbad-- might I add this is BEFORE Bartkira and the 'reanimated' trend) with Ed, Edd n Eddy characters filling out the roles.
I got 90 minutes into the 120 minute animatic before giving up because Part 1 corrupted and could no longer be accessed. There were also issues backing up its last file, but I have since found working Parts 1 & 9, so I think it's finally time I did a private Patreon unveiling of SuperEd. I'm a little nervous that this could get out of hand, so if you have any tips for how to keep it mostly private, I'd appreciate it, otherwise I'll just be trusting you guys with an unlisted video.
It’s all animatic on full-color backgrounds (hard to see what’s going on the darker backgrounds). Parts of it are so rough and old, it’s from back when I was in high school/college, so my embarrassment has prevented me from sharing much about it so far. But recovering from my medical adventure the other week, I revisited SuperEd, and thought you guys deserve to see this weird old gem I animated and never released.
I'm going to try and combine the 9 parts into one video file to see how that goes, and then figure out the private release date in a future post.
Here's a new teaser image though...

Hey everybody! I wanted to thank you guys again for your support. As small artists, this Patreon has helped me and my spouse so much over the past 6-7 years, to both keep us afloat and to help us feel legitimized a little while freelance projects set us back from our personal (more public) projects. We are so grateful. I wanted to let you know I'm FINALLY free from freelance contracts at the moment, so I’m eagerly getting back into my original projects! So I wanted to keep you guys up to date on the goings-on...
I’m very excited about all the ways I can make use of this time, so I’ve got a few plans cooking up. The first thing I want to address is that I have not posted anything to my main Youtube channel in 5 years, so I’m kinda anxious about the eventual return! I’m impressed my subscribers haven’t dropped off yet, but I realize that could very well change, considering my original cartoons are not usually what I get attention for. Still, my audience was smaller and meaner the last time I posted original content, so maybe the tides have changed.
I’m thinking it’s time I make a new video to serve as the channel introduction. I feel the need to reintroduce the Patreon more focused on my original content this time (and not on funding Bro Show). I’m nervous about how to successfully cut ties with Bro Show, but that'll come in due time. I would like this new video to quickly describe my “voice” as an animator, run through the history of my animations, what I’ve done recently and what I want to do next. This could be quite a time-consuming endeavor (I’ve got clips and video editing programs so I guess that’ll be easier now at least), but mainly because it involves having to be “real” on a public forum, the thing that makes me most anxious! But it must be done in order for me to feel ready to move forward, so creating a new Channel Intro/Patreon video is the first new public thing I have to make.
On a smaller note I’d also like to update my Demo Reel, possibly to be part of the channel introduction, which I last updated in 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU77CrAG17g
Another idea I had after backing up my full history of animations: make some sort of video series that reposts my old cartoons (since I’ve largely avoided co-mingling my teenage deviantART animations with my college-age-and-on Youtube channel). I would want this video series to have some sort of framing device to give the right amount of context for where my weird old videos came from/how I feel about them now, since they’re nowhere near my current quality, but I know audiences appreciate being able to go back and see that kind of growth. There are also honestly a LOT of “lost” animations from my teenage years that I could perhaps do a clip reel of-- stuff that was meaningless or short, or less embarrassing parts of my 2005 webcartoon Weeklings. I could also attempt to finally publicly post my favorite freelance projects from the last few years using this format.
I’ll get into my original content plans in a separate post, but those are the biggest plans... I'll mention here that I also want to expand to Newgrounds finally. I was intimidated by it when I posted there at age 13, but I know the animation community is always struggling and that Newgrounds needs to grow, so I should try to include that in the "return" list.
THE PIECE DE RESISTANCE, FOR PATRONS-ONLY: Among my lost high school-college age animations, I discovered PART 1 of a wondrous old project of mine titled SuperEd, completing the backup of my 90 minute animatic for a full Ed, Edd n Eddy fanfilm (it used the audio from SuperBad, so the full length would have been 2 hours had I reached the end of my animatic stage). I will go more into this in a separate post soonish, but I think now that I have part 1, I’m ready to unveil my oddest, largest, most ambitious lost Ed, Edd n Eddy fanfilm, which was produced simultaneously with Bro Show back in 2009-2012. By the very nature of being a Superbad-reanimation, it’s a cease-and-desist waiting to happen, and some humor from the aughts of course doesn’t age perfectly, so I would prefer for this to be a PATREON-EXCLUSIVE release. I’ll start planning a private release date for that soon in its own post. If any of you have advice on how to really make it private, I'd be interested to hear.
Next, I have to be personal with you guys for a moment. I’m generally uncomfortable talking about myself online, so it’s been a while since I’ve mentioned this in much detail, but I live with Crohn’s Disease. It is currently in remission, but I was first diagnosed when I was 15 (nearly 15 years ago) and I tend to be reclusive because of how emotionally drained I still am from all the procedures, medications and physical side effects I’ve endured from the beginning and in the time since then.
Lockdown came at a very bad time for me-- I spent the last 3-4 years of the 2010s fighting my dayjob to get health insurance I was overdue to receive, insurance being the main reason I NEED a day job since art doesn’t provide reliable health coverage. So I finally got health insurance at the start of 2020, and started seeing a massage therapist to work out pain I have from working on computers all day, and before I could make any other medical appointments, quarantine began. We were very well locked down the entire year, but I was too anxious to try and START seeing new doctors in a pandemic, as Crohn’s put me on the immunocompromised list, and massage seemed like the riskiest quick fix in that scenario, so I waited out about 6 months before returning. At that point, I had to accept that I now had chronic pain all over my body, and new medications made my Crohn’s flare, so it all was spiraling into medical mysteries I would not be able to solve without going places. My new massage therapist discovered my shoulders and hips were becoming misaligned, and that I was becoming bow-legged, so I needed to work on improving my muscles big-time. All this most likely being linked to how I typically work a computer dayjob and animate at a computer afterward.
It’s been a LOT, trying to take better care of my body while dealing with depression and body dysphoria. My spouse and I are fully vaccinated now, and have started seeing my doctors again. Two weeks ago, I went through a lot to have my first Crohn’s procedure in 10 years, a long stressful experience I haven’t gone through before in Florida, without my parents present, or the old dog I used to rely on for emotional support. I’m glad I had insurance for it, but it still is going to cost a ton. The good news is that I’m still in remission and my main problem seemed to just come from stress. Stress is gradually diminishing now that I have answers and I don’t have that procedure looming over me, though I still deal with psychosomatic issues I'm working on.
Anyway, I mostly just wanted to open up a bit about all that, so you know HOW MUCH you guys have supported me through, even though I’m not usually open enough to talk about it! Thank you again for understanding through all these years and helping us to breathe a little more easily. :)

A simple still of Hiccup in my style. I was allowed to come up with whatever I wanted for the pose, so I imagined he's wagging his finger at an off-screen Toothless. This was a commission for Alyssa Hogancamp, who reached out via email and was very sweet and patient as I finished up my Strivfe music video. If you see this, thanks so much, Alyssa!!
Underneath the finished product, we have the 3 drafts that this went through along the way. The first sketch, then a second draft where I mostly wanted to extend his main arm more, and the third image is the lineart for the colored version.

Here it is, everyone, my new rotoscoped music video for Strivfe is fully complete and finally released!! I couldn't be more proud, I had to do so much drawing and coloring and math and technical work, but I love the end product. Strivfe and I have known each other and collaborated since I was 12-years-old and he was about 15, and about 10 years ago I fully-animated his first 3 videos, which feature a caricature of himself that we developed. Here's one of those: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEezwQ4HsDw
If you are a patron and have seen the behind-the-scenes posts, this version has been updated to include animated lyrics during the hooks, 2 new shots with low-key zappy effects, and corrected sync on the first few animations. This version also ends with a credit for myself, featuring a brand new logo I conceived of and animated very quickly! I gave them 2 versions of that end credit, and I think it's sweet that they went with the version where my logo lasts a little longer-- that way you get to see the full animation of my character Al.
Maybe I'll record a commentary for this down the line and put it up for patrons!

A doodle I did when we started talking about the podcast again post-quarantine. This is now our Twitter banner @EdCast25.
I don't intend to do too much stuff with the Eds' faces in the promos for the show, but I wanted there to be at least one piece of art featuring both the hosts AND the Eds. Also wanted to draw my first public caricature of my grown-out hair! I was already growing my hair out but quarantine sure made that easy to do discretely, haha.

This idea came about pretty quickly: Sally suggested Plank seemed more recognizable than the Eds' silhouettes while still not going too far, and it seemed funny to have him of all people at the mic. I gave him Edd's hat to look like a hipster, and Nazz's headphones from 'Wish You Were Ed' to be podcasting cans.

During our original talks last summer, I thought it would be funny if EdCast's promo images were inspired by the images for 'Welcome to Nightvale' (see below). These are also all traced from 'One Of Those Eds', one of my favorite episodes and sequences, so I thought it'd be an appropriate representative of the show, and that the lack of silhouettes went with the audio format/not wanting Danny A. to sue, lmao.
However, we're really only interested in using the first three, so I'm working on new promo images that will include faces from the show.

The first ep is now publicly out!!! I love the image Sally picked for this episode, very fitting.
Join co-hosts Kevin Lordi and Sally Peck as they take you through the cul-de-sac and your own childhood nostalgia each episode. Rather than rewatching the series in order, our hosts will hand-select a new two-fer of Eds episodes based around a new theme each week.
"TODAY’S TWO-FER: 'Pop Goes The Ed' and ‘Hot Buttered Ed'"
DESCRIPTION: In the world premiere of ED-CAST: 25 CENTS, Sally and Kevin are feelin’ the heat in quarantine and discuss two classic summer-themed episodes of Ed, Edd n Eddy. First, our hosts return to early season 1 with ‘Pop Goes the Ed’ (often aired as the first episode despite being the second produced) and witness the Eds’ humiliating speedo-clad trip to Nazz’s sprinkler party. THEN, our hosts skip ahead to season 2’s ‘Hot Buttered Ed’, the beach episode!
[NOTE: Listeners are advised to have watched the series before listening, as we will discuss info from the series finale at will. However, if you ARE watching the series for the first time, the show was not heavily serialized so it should not impact your viewing experience in a major way. We still might spoil things though. Also I guess I'll warn you that we swear now and then.]

I forget if I've hinted at this project yet, but here it is! I've been working on this first episode since July (and planning since last year). I had to get my laptop's charger repaired twice while editing it over the past month, but it was a lot of fun editing audio for the first time in a while and I look forward to doing more of these. We are currently hoping to do it biweekly or monthly, but we'll see how hard it is to edit ep 2. We're hoping the flow should improve, we've learned a lot about how our new tech stuff works doing this pilot, and we think we'll be sturdier going forward. I realized afterward that I had forgotten to attach my new pop filter to my new mic! So look forward to that next week, lol.

That's right, even I have a podcast now! My good friend and fellow Ed, Edd n Eddy hyperfan, Sally Peck, approached me a year ago about doing a podcast. We have little to no experience and would just be winging this from our homes (Sally's in NY, and I'm in FL), so we decided to just do it for fun as soon as we could. Over that time, we bought some new equipment, brainstormed an original format that pays tribute to the show's DIY spirit and sound design, and now we're testing our mettle by becoming, as far as I can tell, the Internet's ONLY Ed, Edd n Eddy podcast!
So come along and enjoy the ride! I had a lot of fun editing the pilot episode, but we've come up with a better process for editing the future episodes, so we're currently aiming for biweekly or monthly updates, depending on how busy we are.
Our twist on the rewatch podcast genre is that on EdCast, we watch the episodes in any order we want, and typically we do so in a double feature based around a theme. The goal will generally be to pair an early episode with a later episode, in order to compare them and study the show's development over its run.
The pilot episode should be up tonight. This episode is my first audio set up so I hope you don't mind it, I forgot to set up my pop filter and I have a better recording room for next time.

"A heartfelt story about a boy and his new friend that saves them from danger. " Julius is based on Judy's 3 year old grandson, who loves Paw Patrol. His canine friend is based on the true story of our coworker Brent's dog Maxx, who saved him and his children from a fire back in 2016. Both Brent and Maxx needed months to recover from the experience. I learned during the creation of this cover that Maxx passed away a year or so later, so for what it's worth, I would like to dedicate my art to his memory. Maxx, you were the center of a truly inspiring story that circulated through my office like wildfire. My condolences to his family-- I can at least say I learned they have another canine bundle of joy helping them through the quarantine.

This is her first self-published ebook, and it is $3 if you want to get it on your Kindle or FREE if you have Kindle Unlimited. A second self-published ebook with my cover art should be out very soon.
Judy also offers a very affordable service, in which you can send in a form and she will write a book for you to then gift to any children/parents you know-- and I will be the artist who illustrates the covers of those books! Please check out her site to read or order a book, and share it with others to help spread the word. At the moment, I believe Judy is only capable of making ebooks, but I think she's learning how to self-publish physical books in due time.

Here's a project that's been cooking up since last October and I have hinted at in the past, but has been a little more active recently! For starters, I drew that logo, lol.
A Tale For Children is run by Judy Ogden, a sweet woman who writes books for/about her grandchildren and other kids in her family. Spec versions of those books are FREE and available on her website currently, but don't have art yet. Currently, one ebook with my cover art is already available, which I will post separately about as well, and another is soon to be posted as well. As it stands, it looks like those will be $3 if you want to get it on your Kindle or FREE if you have Kindle Unlimited.

Insider Info: Judy is a former coworker of mine from my office dayjob. She networked with me on her last day to help illustrate books for her, but it's still something new that she's doing on the side. Initially we were planning it to be more focused on fully-illustrated books, but to get the project off it's feet, she is starting small and I am just involved with the covers and logos for now, which is fine by me because I'm busy regardless. But if this takes off, I could be doing illustrations for the full books, so let's see what happens! I hope you guys enjoy the art! More posts about developing the art to come.

Hey guys! I'm really sorry for letting this account fall silent for so long. It's been a tough year to keep up output, obviously with the pandemic and all, but also because I lost my Nana in February. Together, this has been a bit of a drain on my creative mood, and while I have 2+ active freelance projects, it's hard to work fast because one is a rotoscoped music video (very tedious but looking forward to posting that eventually!). The quarantine has also caused changes at my dayjob that have caused me to be much busier, although I should say I'm lucky to have a job at all, so that's a plus. Altogether, I just wish being stuck indoors meant I really had the time to do everything I wanted to do.
For right now, in freelance, I am rotoscoping that music video for Strivfe, and also illustrating children's book covers for an old coworker who's trying out self-publishing. I wish I had more time for getting back to original projects, but we are rumbling about doing a Ferrets quarantine episode, or getting back to that in general. Recently Those Friggin Ferrets was included in a cool Youtube animation crossover, which is technically the first animated appearance of Hattie and Garth's new designs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUXJDHZRUYY (Kudos to animator Anton Servetnik for capturing their personalities so well!)
That said, there are a few projects I've failed to post over the years that I could try and dig up and schedule for some intermediate updates, so maybe it's time I get on that.
...I'm curious, does anyone currently on here have any familiarity with my ooollld unreleased Ed Edd n Eddy fan project, 'Super Ed', where I was gonna animate the Eds over the audio from the movie 'Superbad'? It was never finished but I have shown a handful of people the skeleton of it that exists, and I'm thinking that might be interesting to finally post... but it is one of the dirtiest projects I ever animated (not to mention the bootleg-iness of the concept) so I've always been cautious about posting it. If I do, please understand, I just wanted the tone to fit "Superbad meets adult Danny Antonucci cartoons," I'm not typically that edgy, but I thought it'd be a cool way to have the Eds crossover into other Antonucci universes. I'd appreciate if you guys weigh in on wanting to see this in the comments, otherwise, I'll just post other stuff first.
Here's a post I once did about the backgrounds from Super Ed: https://book-o-scams.tumblr.com/post/123566550888/as-i-was-discussing-with-one-of-the-anons-the

I was surprised to find out the other day that FGTeev finally released the Party In The Elevator music video they had me animate for them last September!
Apparently the reason it took over a year to release was that they was saving it for a release on a new channel the FGTeev family started: FUNnel Boy & Friends. I wonder if it may have been in some part related to all the edits I noticed they did to my original animation... Never was told about getting additional animators involved-- I would've gladly drawn some of those extra props they added if they had asked-- but I appreciate some of the cool effects, like the mirrorball transition early on. And hey, it's already got like a couple million views!! I'm proud to unexpectedly see another project I worked on go over a million, and I'm glad their fanbase is enjoying it.
Here's the original post if you'd like to see the raw animation footage or read the some of the backstory:

This is a commission I was doing periodically through January-March, put on hold for all the Smashbits and Strivfe work I was doing, and then finally finished this week, for my friend and patron Cassie, aka NintendoGal55! Cassie's idea is based on an episode of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, in which Pooh and Piglet get lost in swamp, covered in mud that they wear like uniforms, and believe they are lost on the moon because of a campfire story. She had an idea for a fanfic in which Ed and May find themselves in a similar predicament and this is my illustration of that concept. But this is just part 1....
Happy Halloween!

For Part 2, we have a much more complicated background based on Ed's hallucinations in 'Boo Haw Haw'. After talking about this concept for a while with Cassie and reaching the background stage, I found I couldn't decide between it just being a creepy forest or doing Ed's full-on Boo Haw Haw backgrounds. The sketch of this background didn't give me much confidence in my abilities but it was such an intriguing idea, I wanted to see it through. In the end, Cassie decided it was worth it to commission both versions and here we are today! I gotta say, that really increased my appreciation for the backgrounds in BHH, the lighting effects just in the linework alone are so much more complicated than the show's usual background lineart. Very impressive style in that special.
Happy Halloween!

As we approach my 28th birthday on October 15th, here's my 30th Smashbits post! I actually quite like how this came out, but I must admit my only contribution here is about a minute's worth of facial animation...
PREMISE: A parody of The Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia based around advertising a Magic the Gathering card that also involves living brooms.
The DIRT:
The fun part of the story is that Magic The Gathering was the client! I drew some faces for a thing I've heard of before, so that was pretty neat, and I like how it came out so I'm proud to show it today.
The lame part of the story is that when this started out, I was told to expect to fully animate multiple scenes and have my own separate budget that would've been heaven-sent. And then weeks go by and they don't get back to me and finally they come back and they've whittled my work down to just a minute of faces and a week to do it-- obviously, it was much less pay, but realistically it was fair pay for so little work and it was money much needed, so I did it real quick. The slightly cooler part of that lame story is that I really learned how labyrinthine animation production clouds are. Even when I worked on my last Smashbits team project, I never really understood how their cloud worked, but being a little more officially involved this time around, it was fascinating how many parts of files get passed around a studio, exchanging codes and whatnot... Seeing all those moving parts put into perspective how complicated studio work is compared to the solo work I tend to do.
There are currently no further plans to work with Smashbits, but they tend to email me right after I say that, so I guess we'll see. Other freelance plans on the horizon: Strivfe, who I've been painting for throughout the year, has been talking to me about two different music video commissions, so that is a likely upcoming project. I also did a little networking at work a few months ago and am currently working on concept art for a friend's children's book series. That'll be very simple and stick-figurey in design but I can have fun with that.
What I'm really hoping is that this will finally become a low-pressure enough period that I can try and regain traction with production on my Hoop-a-Joop short film (I did do a couple more backgrounds recently), and maybe even start getting Ferrets in motion. I don't want to get my hopes up because I feel like I bring it up a lot, but I'd love if I could get more original cartoons out again in 2020. Wish me luck, I s'pose!

Apparently Patreon finally updated their site so I could put more than one image in the image part of the post, so this week I'm trying out putting the bonus stuff there! As usual, there's the painting-sans-text and the concept art.
I've been commissioned to paint title cards for songs on a new album by my old friend Steve Ventresca, aka Strivfe, who I've previously animated music videos for when I was in college (and developed EEnE fanprojects with in middle-high school, lol). Here's a directory of Strivfe-related links:
https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/strivfe/retro-pop-future
This was the fifth title card painting I completed, but it's based on the first concept art that I drew.
These title cards are based on the ones that introduce AKA Cartoons (Ed, Edd n Eddy and Brothers Grunt), so many of them include direct inspiration from specific title cards. This is the first title card I painted that is mostly an original composition. The concept art and colors are inspired by an image I found on Google of a Parisian balcony at night, and then I tied it back into EEnE by using the table and chair from 'To Sir With Ed'. This ended up being the hardest to get as fantastical as Kathy's style though, so I've gone much simpler with my original title card ideas ever since, lmao.
