Genre Poll for January- Vote for the next genre POLL theme!
Added 2022-12-26 18:41:55 +0000 UTCHi everyone and welcome to the Genre Poll! This poll features all the basic genres that I could find. This Poll will be a work in progress and tweaks will be made as they are needed and be included on the following months Genre POLL.
This poll is just for you all to pick the genre you would like for the January Genre POLL. At the end of the week the genre will be chosen by all of you.
Next week when the request post releases please make sure to request you favorite title that is appropriate to that genre (both live action and animated). If a movie is classified as multiple genres then it will qualify for any genre it is listed as. (ex: A movie is classified as Action-Adventure then it will qualify for both the Action genre and the Adventure genre!)
You may definitely make other movie requests in the request post, they can be included in the Regular Live Action or Wild Card movie polls later in the month.

So instead of giving people the choice to say, "Yes, we want a selection each month where ONLY action movies are on the poll" (which is essentially all that's happening here)--you make an executive decision based on your current interests and put up a specific poll. Like, just put all quieter dramas on a poll. Or all movies starring actor X. You take the initiative. (If this seems too forward, this is what happens on a lot of other channels. It's normal human behavior to be into a certain actor, genre or director for a time and want to go down various rabbit holes.) Anyway, if you ask people beforehand if they'd like a poll of just popcorn/action movies vs. some other genre, the popcorn will always win, month after month.

2022-12-26 23:47:22 +0000 UTCYeah, I find the genres and subgenres and combed genre groupings quite over complicated and confusing where most of the time I don't know what I'm voting for. I like action, I like adventure, I like Sci-fi, I like Horror, but I could think of 3 different movies having all four of those qualities, along with romance too! Even though it's confusing, to be honest, most of the time it's always movies I like which end up winning, so the genre voting feels sometimes irrelevant.

2022-12-26 23:46:33 +0000 UTCIt's depressing the "Action" genre is winning right now, knowing "Rocky IV" or "Predator 2" will probably win the current poll haha - those are sequels by the way. Predator may have science-fiction but it's mainstream. A shame they'll probably never experience the movie "Sunshine" that came out in 2007.

Categories like "Western" "Romance" and "Drama" are simply never going to beat out "Action." And the genres that win (like action) include the types of movies that win the normal polls anyway. So now with these genre polls, we just get a special, dedicated poll once-a-month in which the movies that barely ever get reactions get excluded entirely. I thought one of the reasons for starting the more specialized polls was to give movies a chance that otherwise wouldn't get reactions, but the opposite seems to be happening. Some reaction channels create very specific polls depending on the whims and current interests of the creators. Like, they might have polls just of "Tom Cruise movies." Or "Award Nominees from 2005." You could even include a more basic category like "Sci-Fi." So maybe create a once-a-month-poll with more specific choices like that.
