Part one of a two-parter story about cute nymphs being menaced by a mean old troll. I haven't forgotten about Nancy Drew, but the last chapter isn't really gelling, so I've got some other stories cooking in the meantime!

2018-10-09 19:07:32 +0000 UTCI've been looking forward to Nancy Drew so much, but now I'm not sure what I want more: the next part of Nancy or the next part of this! It's really wonderful - chock full of inventive metaphors and well-chosen words that fit perfectly with the foresty atmosphere and make the characters and setting so clear and vivid. Yet the descriptions never detract from the flow and charm of the story. The personalities come across so well in the dialogue and reflections - you immediately feel for poor Lydia and want comeuppance for the bitchy Astra, Kekepania and Ulyssa - whose humorous discussion about who should be eaten was one of the highlights (love the way that, rather than simply describing the latter as being a bit plump, you work in a backstory about her having to eat her way to freedom on birth - very clever). Take your time with both stories. I do a little writing myself and know how frustrating it is when things don't seem to gel. :)
