That Lena/Shin scene was very brief, but considering how little of Lena we've seen its impactful.

2022-08-14 18:38:41 +0000 UTCShins survivors guilt is portrayed so incredibly well.Especially with him having to accept that lena is most likely dead for all he knows he lost some of his last tethers to his continued existence and the last ones are joining him on this suicide mission so really everyone seems to really be leaving him alone.

2022-08-13 00:28:36 +0000 UTCShin’s “goodbye” to spirit Lena hit me hard. He just learned that San Magnolia has been overrun by Legion. He believes she’s now on the Other Side, or worse. The rest of the Squad knew Lena became special for the Reaper, even Kurena, and that’s what prompted Anju’s hissing “Theo-kun” and “Kurena-chan”. I know I heap a lot of praise on Saori Hayami, but that delivery was a chef’s kiss of both great character moments and comedy! I absolutely LOVE how 86 handles foils and shadows. Lena/Annette, Lena/Jerome, Shin/Rei, Shin/Kiri… 86 is a textbook on how to write a character foil! This “Special Ep” coming up was a really fun watch featuring the VAs for Shin, Raiden, and Frederica talking about their characters and their favorite scenes up to ep 17. I definitely wouldn’t recommend a watch for any kind of analysis or reaction, but it was a really neat look behind the curtain. Alas, 86 had a lot of production issues leading to a couple skip weeks and having to air the last episodes, I kid you not, 86 days apart. I don’t know if they ever announced the reasons, but I guess it was Vid19 related.
