Pretty sure that After Life is a reference to the transition process. They're expected to leave their old life behind and embrace their new "after life". Also the location isn't some mysterious alternate dimension, it's just a very remote location most likely in Asia.

Wouldn’t you still want to kill the man who cut open your wife and took out her organs and left her for dead. Other people said she was dead. Ward, Whitehall and Skye all said this but Cal never did. The writers love to make you assume things and let you fill in the blanks so the twists is even more shocking. Cut open organs removed of course she’s dead right? Wrong lol In 2x8 Cal even said to Whitehall that he wants to join his wife and daughter in afterlife. He was talking about here but you assume he means heaven.
