Rise of Skywalker | FULL AKIMA Reactions

Comments

I was 9 when “A New Hope”, then just “Star Wars”, came to theaters. I have played with the original figures & watched each subsequent sequel or prequel. Lots of armchair quarterbacks trying to construct exactly how they think the movies should have turned out. Lots of “fans” seeking to eliminate one film or the other. But I have witnessed how the prequels went from hated to accepted to appreciated, something I never thought would occur. I believe that future fans will simply inherit The Skywalker Saga and accept it in its entirety as a completed narrative. Most of the debate as to which Star Wars to accept or throw out will have died down. Time will cast these movies in a new perspective and future fans no doubt will wonder what the controversy was all about. Why do the story elements in TROS belong in the Saga? Because JJ Abrams & Kathleen Kennedy say they do. Therefore THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Period. We didn’t create Star Wars. All we can be are fans...

Have you ever really enjoyed a restaurant experience, but the main course was mediocre? Well, I liked just about everything about Rise of Skywalker except for the actual plot. Everything else was aces. The characters were lovable. The film perfectly captured that classic, timeless "Star Wars" feel. John Williams' score (perhaps his last) was excellent. But the plot felt like when a kid puts off a big essay assignment for 6 weeks, then quickly scribbles something down on the school bus the day it's due. "Let's see. We have no real ideas. People liked Palpatine. He was scary. Let's bring him back! We don't have to explain anything!" I love the idea of Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter. It's a very intriguing concept that opens up a lot of philosophical avenues to explore. But that doesn't mean I *literally* wanted Palpatine back as the main baddie. (Just like I don't literally want Vader to return with no explanation.) I will say that despite there being no strong overarching narrative to this trilogy, it really is impressive how (a) they captured the romanticism of classic film. And (b) how well all the actors come across. They all embody their parts perfectly, and they remain convincing throughout. And this is not damning with faint praise. If nothing else, the prequel movies showed that none of these positive traits are guaranteed just because you call something "Star Wars." For me, the prequels felt artificial and soulless, with none of that romantic, Star Wars feel. And even though they'd cast Oscar-nominated actors, almost everyone gave the impression they'd simply cast random stranger pulled from the street. In the end, I'm grateful that the new trilogy exists, because it recaptured that old Star Wars magic that I thought was gone forever. I just wish it could've been stronger. A lot of missed opportunity blended with the good.

I don't know if this is related, but they ask that you not watch videos directly through their Google drive because of bandwidth issues. You're meant to either download the files, or copy them to your personal Google drive first. Maybe you're running into errors because you're trying to play directly on their drive?

Hi there. For some reason, I cannot watch certain videos of yours on here. It says for some of them 'Cannot process video' and then asks if I want to download it. Any ideas why I can watch some but with others, it is giving me that message? It says it for Terminator 2 particularly. Thanks.

@Adam Vialpando. That's correct. It's not as deadily as the fictional virus (mortality rate in the low 20s) as COVID-19, thankfully. That being said, Contagion still provides a striking parallel to the current pandemic outbreak. I think it would be great for Storm to check out, at the very least to understand the importance in realising the seriousness of our current outbreak and the threat it poses to our hospitals and our very well being.

I disagree. I think the prequels fit that description.

Armchair Wizard

or Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman!

Contagion is great!

Armchair Wizard

Contagion is a very good film and it does bear striking similarities to what's happening currently. That's probably one of the reasons people are panicking. But Covid is nowhere near as serious as what's in Contagion.

Adam Vialpando

Sorry. You may enjoy it for what it is. But it's the worst Star Wars movie ever made.

I had just one or two minor quibbles, but still really enjoyed this movie, even moreso seeing it a couple more times. In reading through comments where people actually expressed what specific problems they saw, I find I either agree but find the issue to be minor to me- maybe a function of what I think of as just the style of these movies- or something they're saying didn't make any sense & therefore was badly written made perfect sense to me & maybe that person would also get it if they saw it again or asked some other fans. Disappointingly, though, MOST of the negative comments I've seen come either from flat out haters of "the Disney Star Wars" or worse, the haters of "Social Justice Star Wars" , or they seem to come from a place of disagreeing with a single story choice and then condemning the ENTIRE thing, even going so far as to misinterpret lots of other elements, (deliberately or in a blind rage), and trying to paint the whole movie as some sort of disastrous thing, expecting everyone to agree that it's terrible. I find it frustrating, but in the end, it's their loss; and, hey, this is supposed to be fun : ) ! Mainly, I just want each person to decide for themselves what they think of these movies instead of simply taking the word of the haters or the lovers; I tell people to just give 'em a chance, & watch through to the end of the arc, and then make up your own mind.

You should watch the film Contagion. It's a super realistic film about pandemic's and it's so eerily similar to the current global situation.

This one had good ideas but seemed like it was edited by a random slot machine. One of my least favorites from the new trilogy but I still was able to enjoy parts of it

LOVE THE MOVIE. SAW IT 5 TIMES IN THEATER

Brandon Jensen - May the force be with you

I personally was NOT a fan of this movie because of how it tried to make up for all the lost time in The Last Jedi all while speeding towards the finish line since this is supposed to be the "conclusive chapter" of the saga. Not a fan of how they handled multiple plot points like bringing the Emperor back which is just LAZY storytelling, as well as Rey just being able to heal all of a sudden? Anakin spent his whole life trying to find the answer for saving people from death and Rey can do it without even trying? No one answered Leia's call for help at the end of The Last Jedi but we're supposed to believe that Lando of all people can get the entire galaxy behind him in this fight against an army that the Emperor had hidden conveniently under the ice all this time? Yeah I hated this movie and we still don't know how Maz found Luke's lightsaber, or what Finn was going to tell Rey, etc. I just can't believe how badly they messed this movie up with one of the laziest scenes I've seen in Star Wars. The knife lined up perfectly with RANDOM wreckage of the Death Star that was OBLITERATED in Return of the Jedi yet Rey doesn't even have to look twice to realize they were in the right spot... conveniently. Lazy, lazy, lazy. Plus this story undermines Anakin's sacrifice and redemption... hate this movie.

I liked the ending but could of ended better, but liked the twist. Still it could of looked way differently. Hope you like it, and judge the movie well.

Sarah Sanchez

I loved it! It wasn't a perfect movie but so what. It was still great and a lot of fun.
