Blake's 7 1x01 EARLY Early Access!

Wow! This is exciting. Love Blakes 7!!

Duncan Hart

Yay, so excited for this cos I've just finished a re-watch of the 2nd series as the blu ray has just come out. This is such a bleak opening to the show though I'm glad you vibed a bit with "vocational thief" Vila, bringing a bit of levity to the world Blake is flung back into.

That's Nigel Lambert as the computer operator. "Look around you. Can you tell what we're looking for? The answer is 'traitors'. Write that down in your copybook now."

Been trying to wait patiently this past week. Such an excellently grim opener, which leaves you wanting more! Space: 1999 was another Trek inspired show from the '70s. It also had a dark edge to it... for the 1st series at least, then the tone changed a lot. Not terrible but it pales in comparison. Might be why the show was cancelled after series 2

Oh look, there's that 70s Space Sofa again. And Roger Murray-Leach gets his turn as set designer next time.

I had to get the blu-ray for this myself. There seems to be no dvd available here in the States. Never saw any of this prior to this week. Could see it being likely that this was on PBS at some point or another as they have often shown Classic Who there from time to time, usually the Fourth Doctor era. So far, this has had a good start. Grim, though that suits my tastes rather well. Looking forward to the fun to come.

Many thanks for the reaction to this. I think the first thing to say from me is a guess at why at least some people might have recommended this/vibed with it themselves and that is potentially because Terry Nation wrote it. Terry Nation of course being the author of the vast majority of Classic Who Dalek stories and is considered their 'creator'. I'm sure that's far from the only attraction though. The second thing to mention is that, aside from some incredibly vague memories of catching the odd episode of it way back when it was originally broadcast, I have never watched it & have to be frank that I never particularly vibed with it, but my tastes have changed over the years. I now know enough through clips on Youtube and the fact that my Brother-in-law is obsessed with it to understand the premise, most of which was revealed in this first episode. To this end and prior to checking out this reaction, I did a full watch through of the first episode, which survives in its entirety on Youtube. Your footage was much more crisp than the somewhat grainy version of this episode which I saw on Youtube. I have to say I enjoyed it enough to want to carry on watching. So my plan is as follows. Get the DVD box set, watch through the whole series & then pick it up again through your reactions. For this reason I will likely be a little late to the 'party' for the first few episodes you react to, as I'll spend some time playing catch up with your reactions. See you next time!

As I said last month, I was worried about not being able to share this with you, especially as streaming it here in the States doesn’t seem to be an option. God bless home video, and thanks to links shared here, the internet archive allows a safety net, so I’m good to go with sharing this show with you. You made me cry some with how you said that it truly means the world to you to read the comments from those such as myself who’s never seen this show, and am now seeing it for the first time to share it with you, offering continued support. It always does mean a lot to me that our support of you is embraced as it is. Great to read this lovely message from you upon starting the journey with this show, Jess, appreciate it.

Welcome to Classic Trek's dark and twisted twin. Simultaneously dark and hell and camp as Christmas. It's a hell of a ride.

I want to give my sincerest thanks to those of you who have stuck around here and have continued to give me support after finishing Classic Who. I'm so grateful to those of you who have recommended this and are happy to revisit it along with me. And also, a special shoutout to those of you who will be watching it for the first time so that you can continue watching my videos. It truly means the world to read those comments.
