It feels like this whole franchise runs just enough on cartoon logic that it can get away with the fridge bit way better. Though personally, my problem was never so much with whether it could shield you than our openly seeing the fridge land get tossed away and land so violently, yet he doesn't have a scratch on him, which isn't an issue here.
I'd probably respond with "Yes, like the Dickens book, and the Bill Murray movie, and all the other adaptations nobody asked for."

...See, I didn’t even think about the Rich of it all. I was distracted by the fandom bile of the Crystal Skull of it all, which kind of served as a buffer zone. Maybe? My brother and sister in-law still haven’t seen the Pennywise show, nor has anyone else in the family from the sound of it, so couldn’t talk about it. Yeah, the whole set piece has you invested. Shame about the Crystal Skull of it all completely pulling me out of the scene with the laughter. Did not know that the “All work and no play” style line was from the game. Makes sense. Lucy becoming a much darker character could still happen, and we could just be taking our time with it so as to avoid how such a fall to the Dark Side was rushed through a bit too fast with Daenerys in the last two seasons, though her falling to the Dark Side made perfect fucking sense. I just really want Darth Jinx energy from Lucy, goddamn it. We share the thought of maybe she should start basing what she does on the idea that the Ghoul is pretty fucking good at what he does, and knows generally what he’s talking about. Seen some Lucy fans jump on the Ghoul for just saying that the Tunics weren’t worth saving, and not explaining further. I note that Lucy could have asked. Jess is loving how she’s held onto the golden rule mentality. Happy for Jess with that. Hoping, however, that Lucy wises up some. Norm did some fine work with rallying everyone, ascending the proverbial and literal corporate ladder, and getting into the David Lean of it all with the rather Lawrence of Arabia looking shot. The minigame thought: Was that a Severance reference? Or more Dispatch? Or I’m off the mark? That is a good note on Kyle. Saw his video in the Criterion Closet a few years back, where in that, among other things, he highlights some of Lynch’s work, and talks about how he’s grateful for how Lynch hired him again after Dune bombed, and it’s very sweet to hear. Heard everyone comment on the mirror scene. Twin Peaks? Laura Dern showing up in the type of twist you mention would be grand. I’d be down for Isabella Rossellini in this world. Dane is making an impression with the judging looks. Looking forward to more of their story. Still not seen Silicon Valley. Like Jess, I adored The Big Sick, so anything with Kumail, I’m here for, and he has a great entrance. We both expected Jess having the big reaction to Kumail. Maximus getting to live the Sid the Squid life? Fine by me, so long as we get Mark Hamill to stop by and say, “Well, that was fun. Who’s for Chinese?” And of course, both our minds went to the absence of rules in a knife fight, I even said, “Someone say “One, two, three, go!”.” Fun times.

I know you said next week’s reaction would be a week late. No problem. I also know you said about this reaction yesterday, though that was also a maybe as I recall. Sorry to hear that Santa gave you a migraine. Doesn’t sound fun. You say it sounds sad about spending Christmas Eve in bed, crying. Well, it sounds preferable to some Christmas past for me, if that makes you feel any better. Know that you’d have the filming done given the holiday festivities you have, hope that’s all lovely by the way. Now to the episode. Hell of an opening with the flashback of Shady Sands. You got more emotional than I did. We see the glimpse of Maximus as a boy. He survives the nuclear explosion by hiding in the fridge that I’m SUUUUURE no one’s going to piss and moan about that like they did over seventeen years ago. Hate how even thinking about that made me laugh during that scene when the scene was no laughing matter. Fun brain to have, no? Reminding us that Hank set the bomb off. You said, “Psychopath.” and I yelled, “Screw your goddamn “Okey-Dokey”, Hank!! You piece of shit!!” Hank is having a time of things. Want someone to shove that goddamn yo-yo up his ass. Seeing the first mouse made me think of you, namely I said, “Oh, she’s not going to like that.” The question of why he looks so jaunty, in addition to how Ryan notes about the Lynchian of it all, there really is no point in being a villain if you can’t have fun. We catch back up with Maximus, after, as you say, the flashback gives better context to his actions. Like seeing more of Quintus. Great seeing Michael be rather wonderful in the role. Maximus is sort of going along with his goals complete with the dialogue that makes you embrace your Mon Mothma of it all, by saying, “Well, isn’t that wonderfully cryptic.”. Dane is trying to talk Maximus out of it, clearly disapproving of what Quintus is planning, which, well, if nothing else, his nefarious schemes don’t seem to involve setting Pennywise free with the goal to Make America Great Again, so he’s got that one going for him. Great meeting with the leaders. Bunch of pleasant people gathered round the dinner table. Nothing like the holidays, yes? Knew the one sexist pig’s one line would elicit the reaction you had. Quintus is needing them united as it seems he’s reluctant to go directly after the Commonwealth without everyone united. Sort of sounds like how Carl Grissom knew not to cross Max Shreck, and Shreck, by the same token, usually steered clear of working with Grissom’s syndicate too directly so as to avoid dealing with Jack Napier, as he thought was an A-1 nut boy as Eckhardt once described it. Fun fight scene which had a lovely Butch and Sundance feel to it. Hell of a thing: Maximus is now known as the man who killed Moldaver. Makes him understand what Greogory Peck meant about what it means to be a big tough gunny. Dealing with the line of a thousand cheap squirts waiting right now for the chance to kill the man that killed Moldaver. And now, Kumail Nanjiani has entered the game. Knew he was going to be in the season, and as Ryan says, it was known that you would be delighted about that. Not much to say about Norm this week. Your reactions speak better than what I could say. Terrific how he gets himself and the others out, leaving Bud behind in a rather Abby Normal mood. Anytime the Ghoul shows up, I’m more invested. We both note the fun timing with Lucy regaling the Ghoul with A Christmas Carol. I’d say in the Ghoul’s place, “I’ve read the fucking book, Vaultie.” Leads to giant scorpions. Lucy saves the one lady to the Ghoul’s chagrin. Like you say, the Ghoul is often proven not incorrect. Yet Lucy persists with the golden rule. You speak of that being her big strength. Ok. Still not vibing with it as I share the Ghoul being annoyed. Probably speaks to the rather perverse desire for the experience doing a number on Lucy to the point where she ceases to be Lucy MacLean and becomes Darth Jinx. Maybe that’s just me, and if that makes me an asshole, I apologize. Lucy does end up in a tight spot that the gamers have been chattering away about. I’m unaware of the specifics, but the raping line sounds awful. You almost ask if there are right people to be raped by; maybe that was Moldaver’s logic with setting up Lucy to be the victim of rape by deception? Or like you said about the question, is the show just breezing right past that? So, fun note to leave things on. Indeed, a fun reaction.Again, no worries on the wait for the next reaction. You enjoy the holiday festivities, Jess.

Goddammit, can we not have a little bit more of a buffer zone before having to watch more people pull a Rich Santos? I was quite impressed with how effective the scene was so soon after we first met these people, and even if we didn't know Maximus, these performances would probably still work just as well. And I was pretty amused to learn from people who know the games that the one line the guy keeps saying is notorious for being bugged on release so the NPCs kept saying it way more than they should. That's a way to give a shout out to the fans without leaving the newbies feeling left out.
So, remember how I predicted at the end of last season that Lucy would become a much darker character in going after her father, leaving the still good Maximus horrified when they met up again? Strike that, reverse it, thank you. And her story this time actually did feel like the character reversal I was worried about last time, where it never occurs to her that maybe the Ghoul knows what he's talking about regarding these people, after how much longer he's been around on the surface. Hell, wasn't the rape line any kind of red flag? Maybe this will be the learning experience she needs before snapping out of it once and for all.
Norm's story is everything I was hoping, complete with stunt casting a couple guys from What We Do in the Shadows to let us immediately know the kind of dipshits he's now working with. Every moment is a joy seeing him become his best self as he quickly twigs onto the best way to motivate these people, even if it also had me saying "Oh man, I always hate these resource allocation minigames." Ending with making an actual corporate ladder, and Moises perfectly sells his reaction to seeing the outside for the first time. I have absolutely no idea where this could be going, and I'm maybe the most eager to find out of everything the show has right now.
I saw one review of the premiere that said of Kyle MacLachlan "He always gives just a little bit of camp, and I can see why David Lynch got so attached to him." So just sticking him by himself for a whole episode lets that whole side come out. I said at the end of last season that I was most looking forward to him getting to cut loose now that he can just play Hank's real self, and I especially loved that look in the mirror where you almost expect he to start saying "How's Annie?" Though it also got me imagining that when Lucy catches up, he'll pull an Omni-Man and reveal he found a new family, and then Laura Dern steps out.
With Maximus' story, I'm actually a lot more interested in Dane right now, with their silent judging face making me look forward to them having a larger role this season just as much as Hank. I wasn't really feeling much of the meeting of various people who are all horrible in their own ways, so it's good that's already over with Dinesh Chugtai inserting himself in the middle of it. Your instantly recognizing him by voice alone was all I was expecting after your reaction to him in Obi Wan Kenobi. At least we got a neat bit of Maximus finding himself in Sid the Squid territory that he's able to get out of even without invoking rules in a knife fight.
