'The Box of Delights' would have been a wonderful option. Time to dig out the DVD for the annual rewatch!

2025-11-27 11:23:59 +0000 UTCI'm wondering if I missed nominations this year because if I'd had a choice I'd consistently nominate The Box of Delights as a series and The Amazing Mr Blunden as a film. I concede that they've never garnered many votes, I'm guessing because they haven't been that widely viewed over necessarily disliked. It's a pity because both ooze the magical vibe of Christmas IMO. The Amazing Mr Blunden Chronicals the quest of 2 children to go back into the past and right a terrible wrong. The Box of Delights is about a boys quest to safegaurd a magical box given to him by a mysterious figure from those who would use it for nefarious ends. I can't say more than that, without, you know, spoilers, but I would urge anyone who hasn't seen them to give them a go. There is only really this time of year to watch them! I'm the same when voting. I only ever vote for stuff I'm familiar with, but in this poll I think The Snowman is a good representation. Aside from Blackadder & Some Mothers Do ave em (which I hugely enjoyed as a kid), I'm not familiar with the others on the list.

2025-11-21 23:41:17 +0000 UTCBlackadder is a great series - I love it. (BTW: I love "The Goodies" too.) But I don't think "Blackadders Christmas Carol" is a good choice for an initial reaction to the series. That episode is SO much better and funnier if the viewer recognises the callbacks they make to the earlier series and if you haven't seen the earlier episodes (or, even, eventually watch them later) it's a wasted first-time viewing.
