Wednesday 2x08 Full Reaction!

Did find the shorter run time odd when it came up on the tv, yet like you said, they hit the ground running, so it was no bother. Morticia learns to spill the secrets. They are light on the details of how they sold the death to the cops, but I can fill that in: Morticia described it as, “Well, I was in such a state of shock, I completely blacked out, I can’t remember a thing. It wasn’t until later... when I was washing the blood off my hands, I even knew he was dead!” Shared notice of the look Gomez had in the season opener, and yeah, the show sets that up well. As I recall, there was the previous mention of question about Thing’s origin when he talked to Enid about it at one point, which the lovely support group then shined renewed light onto that. And though I’m with you on how they could have just left that be the riddle of the ages, the payoff is indeed terrific. Definitely was not planned last season, but it’s done well enough, and it meshes well enough that you don’t mind. They were very sneaky with the Radar strategy with hiding the hand. Man’s happy he can use the hand when saying, “Ahh, Bach!” which I see your note on Rollerball. Love the piece, it’s just used in the hackneyed way here, and I appreciate the lampshade. (And I hear you on Tim not using the actual Sweeney Todd line.) Like Jess said, Isaac brought the Bruce Campbell energy, though he fell short of the standards of the deep cut that I had to google. Sounds absurdly fun. You did suspect Enid wolfing out as she did was likely coming given the set up. Shared excitement of diving into that for next season. Enid is the alpha, and Wednesday is her omega, as yes, those words, (whatever they mean nowadays,) were said by the show’s social media, so we’re just leaning into it. Those two are endgame. Would be nice to see Enid’s dad again. You say that you can’t picture what more you could do with Tyler. Yeah, at present, I can’t come up with anything off the top of my head. And they don’t kill him like how it happened when Heather saved herself. (Though I think he might come back somehow there, see how that goes.) We goddamn well better not be building to him hooking back up with Wednesday; his “romantic” scenes with her, and Xavier’s too, were much like you described. (Though some of us baldies do need the comb for what’s left of the cemetery of what used to be a great colonization of hair. Plus the beard.) Capri being in the mix is intriguing, and good note that it assumes Billie has the free time. Speaking of: The theory you mention would be good. Would not have the massive joy and excitement that was had with the War Doctor. Not to mention the first tease of the War Doctor, namely that John Hurt was the Doctor, hearing his voice alone, I let out a Jess style scream of joy. But a good idea, I’d run with it. (Whenever we actually get a new season of Who.) Here’s hoping next season keeps the momentum going, with no strikes delaying anything. Because yeah, this show is delightful and sharing it with Jess is a very big bonus.

I had my doubts when I saw the shorter run time of this episode, but they manage to use every bit of it well and definitely top the first season finale. Starting with Morticia finally learning to just let secrets go. And her story certainly has me convinced: If I had been there, if I had seen it, I would have done the same. I'd clocked in the first episode that just enough attention was put on Gomez's reaction to Pugsley asking why he didn't have powers that it would mean something, but this was quite a surprise and it was great fun watching the season again and seeing all the pieces set up. And then there's the even bigger surprise. When the support group scene made such a big deal of Thing not knowing where he came from, my response was "Do we really need to do this? Can't this mythos just have one thing that's weird with no explanation?" And I still think it would have been better to just have him be pure "I'm Nimona," but if they were going to do it, this is about the best way possible, tying in strongly to the existing story and leading to a hugely emotional payoff, even if I still have doubts anything like it was planned last season. And it leads to plenty more rewatch value, as I could see that Owen indeed spends the whole season hiding his right hand, but never in a way that draws any attention to it, kind of like Radar O'Reilly. And it must be such a huge acting challenge to portray your own hand beating you up; Bruce Campbell pulled it off great as you brought up, and Owen turns out to be pretty good at it too, even if he apparently can't do that forward flip that impressed the Brisco County producers so much. You had to suspect this was coming for Enid as soon as Capri brought the possibility up, and it's easily the part that most has me eager for the confirmed third season, which hopefully won't take quite as long to get without an industry-wide strike in the way. Wednesday is her omega (and that's not me reading too much into things; the show's official social media feed literally said it), so however this goes, I'll be happy to read anything into it I want. Maybe they could also bring her parents back into it; that dynamic could definitely carry more than one episode. One part I'm not so much looking forward to is more Tyler. I just have no idea what's left to do with him at this point that they wouldn't just kill him off like the others. Daredevil realized that, why can't this show? Unless they're planning on hooking him and Wednesday back up, which please god no. Their scenes in Season 1 were like watching two bald men fighting over a comb, and it would make even less sense now. The only vague interest comes from Capri's involvement, especially how it would seem to indicate Billie is anticipating having some free time in the near future. To go off-topic for a bit, I did see one theory I doubt will happen, but I would love it: by the time the next season starts, the Doctor has already regenerated again, and when the new companion discovers they used to look like Billie, they respond with a ominous tone similar to when the War Doctor was brought up, and the ongoing plot is the mystery of what very bad thing happened with that incarnation. I went into this show with not that high expectations, and the first season had its definite high points but still left me a bit underwhelmed. This season totally redeemed everything about it, digging so much more into the possibilities of this setup and with a much clearer idea of what can be asked of these actors, and I'm now looking forward to Season 3 much more than I once thought possible. And of course having you along is a big bonus.

i'm curious to see what Billie's involvement in Series 3 will be, I feel she was a bit underused here so have high hopes, would be nice to see Tyler get some sort of happy ending away from Thornhill and his family
