Still need to see that show, and I’m still behind on The Boys. Seen Love Sausage as the internet made a lot of noise about that, so I looked that up, asking, “What’s all the hoo-ha?”. My brother also showed me the scene with Soldier Boy and the Rambo III parody, followed by the Bill Cosby joke which was ungodly hysterical.

Those two scenes you mentioned did make an impression, yes. I apologize if this goes against the usual fan response: I am still not calling God “Chuck”. Fine with everyone else doing it. First I’ve heard of this “widow arc”. I don’t not ship Destiel. Feels practically canon as is. Fully supportive of the ship though, albeit I do not actively ship it like I do with Sam/Eileen. (The hell would the portmanteau for that be by the way?) Yeah, Sam undoubtedly is contending with the intimate knowledge of old Lucy and his insatiable need for company, hence the spot of trouble that Sam knows that Mary’s in. Contrast with Dean who feels like he wants the alternative to be true as the truth is too horrible to think about. Only seen this episode with Jack, so we’ll see how my own opinion goes. You speak of impending Jack bias, all right. I did get momentarily pulled out of it when Jack called Castiel his father, more precisely, got hung up on the literalness of that before he clarified he chose Castiel to be his father. He’s welcome to that, and it’s a good choice. If I can keep saying that Bobby is the boys’ dad, I’ll endorse Castiel being Jack’s dad. Considering the pain and grief that Dean’s going through, especially with the widow arc, as you put it, makes sense that he’s, I guess regressing with the kill first, kill later, kill some more, and then when everyone is dead, try to find the more peaceful solution. You can tell Sam’s not blaming him for it, nor is Jess, nor I, much though I do share Sam’s annoyance with the extreme of it. Sam is taking the different approach, seeing past the rumors, as you describe, and he, Jess too, assesses that Jack seems more scared and confused than anything else. If I were in the show, I’d point out that Jack very noticeably did not kill the boys, despite the golden opportunity to do so, nor did he kill the sheriff or anyone else. Feels like Tommy Lee Jones as Gerard in The Fugitive and U. S. Marshals, where he begins questioning the guilt of the men he’s after when although they are allegedly cold blooded murderers, they keep going out of their way to NOT kill people, even when it would be the more pragmatic move. In the latter film, even when Gerard gets shot by the character played by Wesley Snipes, he’s hit in the vest with no serious injury, and Gerard makes the comment that he’d have been shot in the head rather than the vest if Wesley’s character was really trying to kill him. And when his boss asks the reasonable question of did it occur to Gerard that maybe it’s just a case of someone missing, Gerard replies, “I don’t think we’re dealing with a guy who misses.” Same basic thought here where if Jack was meant to be full on Damien right away, he’s not quite living up to that reputation, and it means that Sam holds the belief that maybe they can have the peaceful ending, and avoid someone suffering the fate that he almost suffered. Dean disagrees, and again, hard to blame him. Though Dean’s at the loss as to how to kill Jack if things escalate. One would think he’d seek out Bugenhagen and collect the daggers of Megiddo if an angel blade won’t do anything. The whole dynamic of this is sure to be interesting. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out, how Jess reacts to it, and hearing your further thoughts on it.

What a heartbreaking, and beautiful premier to a season. Sam's funeral speech, and Dean's prayer to Chuck are both such gorgeous, heartfelt, emotional monologues that Jensen and Jared both just freaking nailed. Jensen's portrayal of Dean this episode is just... outstanding. The grief, the pain, the weight on his shoulders, is palpable. You can feel the loss that Dean is experiencing, the heartbreak. This is the start of what the fandom calls Dean's widow arc, and you can see why. Ship Destiel, or not, but the love Dean has for the angel, and the sheer depth of hurt and pain at his loss, Jensen just portrays so beautifully. And Sam... Sam is clearly also grieving Cas, clearly in pain, but you can also see he is in complete fear and panic as well. One, because of Jack's arrival, and what that could mean, but two because... Sam knows Lucifer. Knows Lucifer probably better than anyone else on the planet, knows Lucifer better than he knows even Dean (180 years roughly of imprisonment in the Cage will do that). Sam knows Lucifer won't kill Mary. Like Sesska said, Lucifer enjoys company. He hates solitude (because of how long he was in the cage before Sam freed him). Even if it is just torturing people, Lucifer can't be alone, and Sam knows exactly what that means for Mary. Better than anyone else. And, to an extent I think Dean does as well, but that's why he needs to think Mary is dead, because the alternative of her being alone with the devil is just way worse. But Sam, cursed with such personal experiences of the devil, doesn't have that luxury of denial. And then, of course, the nephalim in the room... Jack. My precious baby lol. Get ready for my Jack bias in the coming episodes lol. But in all seriousness... now we have the devil's son, and the devil's perfect vessel. And I just love that the very first interaction they have, when Jack sees Sam... is Jack calling him father. Yes, searching for Cas, but also just the subtext is incredibly perfect for me. Back in season 12, I mentioned a few times the parallels already forming around Jack, and Sam from early seasons and I feel like this episode just really brought them to a new level. Dean is startling like Gordon this episode... hell, even like Ketch. The kill-first, ask questions later mentality. And yeah, clearly Dean is being Dean- using anger to mask his fear, lashing out instead of talking it out, drowning in pain and taking it out on those around them... but those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And Sam knows this. He can see the past repeating itself with Dean, probably hears his father again- if you can't save Sam, you'll have to kill him- and he knows what it is like to be hunted just because of who he is -Gordon, Tim and Reggie, Walt and Roy, his own father, being called a monster by Dean, hell even Bobby took a killing shot at him, when he was possessed by Lucifer- and you can see that pain being dragged back up this episode, but it doesn't control him like Dean's pain does. Sam uses it to let him see past the rumors of Jack to Jack himself. Sam can see Jack, and there is a protectiveness almost instantly in that cell, when Jack calms down and Sam realizes Jack isn't evil, just alone and scared and confused and a child. And Sam, sweet, empathetic, kind, gentle Sam, won't let an innocent be put through the same crap he was. Which is gonna be difficult with Dean as hurting and grieving as he is. Can't wait to see the watch the rest of the season with you!
