[Step-By-Step] VDB Morph!

Heyya guys! Staring this month early :)
First tutorial of the month was actually requested in our Discord, and the technique is inspired by XK Hublot | Sapphire Rainbow where the watch frame emerges from the glass cube. This VDB morph setup is super versatile and I can't wait to see what you guys will create using this technique!

P.S. I was too excited so apologize for a bit loud audio and yes yes yes i know there is a typo in the intro :DDD

Hey Nick, I tried this technique with different geometry, and I'm getting a flickering on the mesh that morph into. Would you know how to solve it? Here's a test render, if you look at the rock you'll see what I mean. Thanks! https://www.dropbox.com/s/5agkmys0o07zvxo/vdb_morph_v2.Redshift_ROP2.mp4?dl=0

Kinda, if you manage to bake your regular mograph animations into a volume builder>mesher and then have it as a child of their newest Remesher to save endless polygon count. It is quite heavy to calculate for C4D though, houdini is way more efficient for these tricks :)

Lucas Ranché

yeah it is wayyy faster

Not sure about C4D, haven't used it for quite some time :(

Nick Medukha

Oh thats cool! Gotta try!

VDB morph with cinema 4D, it’s possible ?

ZTH

Hey Nick, great stuff ! Just a heads up, you should try to put the vdb morph in a sop solver it's gonna be muuuuuch faster ^^

Okay, that makes sense. Any example where "out color" wouldn't work (at least the way it is supposed to)?

Mantas Kava

Thanks a lot man! Well, Out Color means you output vector, Color, or Velocity, or P, for example, and Out Scalar means you output int or float basically. Because I had color from black to white, which is 0,0,0 to 1,1,1, I went with scalar, but no big diff here :)

Nick Medukha

Really useful tutorial once again, Nick :) Although I got one question in mind. At 30:30min you use "Out Scalar" instead of "Out Color" for the mask. Why is that? what's the actual difference between those two? I have always just used "Out Color", so now I'm wondering.
