Vellum 101 - Peeling Off

Recently we had to build a setup to peel off a piece of geo from an underlying mesh. It turned out more straightforward than we originally anticipated.

Here's how we did it.

Hi Malik, as vellum attach by default reads the target geo to attach a vellum object to from the node's third input slot, you'll have to connect the obj you want to attach your vellum object to. If you need more complex setups, you could group your attach target geo, merge it with the third input's stream, use the group field to tell vellum attach to only use the geo in that particular group and eventually afterwards delete it if you don't need it. Cheers, Mo

Hi Dilip, while we've got rendering on our list of topics it's not too likely we'll be covering Octane. We tested Octane and then decided to use Redshift and Mantra. These engines in our opinion are currently much better suited for the types of projects we do. Sorry :( Cheers, Mo

Very nice serie. But it is not clear to me on witch geometry the attach to object constraint will attach the vellum, is there a way to attach it to an obj not connected to the vellum network?

Awesome series Mo, very insightful and useful tutorials.. Could it be possible to make a series about Octane rendering? Redshift is awesome, but I can't afford it at the moment so i'm currently using Octane via subscription and would love to see some tricks applied with it. Cheers!

Amazing as always. I especially enjoyed the "production" tips from ~12min onwards. Would love to see/hear more of these!
