Vellum 101 - Shrinkwrapping

Flavio asked how to attract vellum cloth to a piece of geometry - a setup we too need quite often. Not only can you use it to wrap virtual goods in packing paper, it also makes for some nice shrink wrapping!

In this quicktip we'll set up custom forces in our vellum solver using a bit of VEX.

Sorry I guess what I'm trying to ask is if there's a way to just do this within Vellum- ie) in real life to shrink wrap something you suck the air pressure out of the wrapping until it's tight around whatever it's wrapping. The method you use is cool but when you watch the animation it becomes clear at a certain point (not always but enough) that you aren't watching a physically correct process. Do you know what I mean?

Also if you want the shrinking cloth to result in a less wrinkled appearance, try animating down the restlength scale like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ienKLamzfmSJl_MlN8mXQsbxb87odf5G Cheers, Mo

Hi Ryan, not sure if I understand your question correctly. Just to be clear - this is by no means meant to supplant a classic shrinkwrap as you might know it from retopology. For that you'd rather use a Ray-SOP. Cheers, Mo

a purely physical solution in general would be nice because even if you just increase this grid size large enough it becomes obvious that it's just a linear attraction and isn't truly wrapping... to me kind of defeats the purpose of even using vellum other than for the collision?

Ok but say I want a large sphere to shrink wrap over a small cube that is inside of it, how does that work? This setup doesn't seem to translate (forgive me I am pretty new)
