It's simple. FD4 was in the haydays of 3D, every death and special effect (like the Mortal Kombat ones) was made for 3D cinemas and later 3D Blurays for home viewing. That's why it was so tacky. 3D features cost way more at the theatre. Thus it made more money. (But that is my theory lol)
