She was a survivor, and she deserves to be remembered as the Queen she will always be. Thank you for including this story into your screenings for black history month. It is definitely a great film. The impressive thing with Darius Rucker’s comeback is that he switched to a completely different genre of Music. He started out in Pop/Rock as lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish but when they split for his solo career he switched to the music he loved as a kid, Country. In his first year in Country in 2009, He won New Artist of the Year at the CMAs and had 3 #1 hits off his debut album in Country. He was also was the first African American country singer to win at the CMAs since Charley Pride won Male Vocalist of the Year in 1972. Darius was very successful after that in Country as well with 10 #1 hits including winning a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance for Wagon Wheel in 2013.
