Outlander 3x02 - "Surrender" FULL REACTION

I enjoyed your reaction and commentary. This is year 6. From S2E13, we know that Claire and Jamie will be separated for at least 20 years. Maybe forever. The sex scene of Claire on top of Frank made me think of their second honeymoon when they were so engaging with each other. Glad to see Jamie get some intimacy. "A woman and a negro. How very modern of us."

Then Jamie let the body flow down stream eventually to be found by the British who assumed that McGreggor had gotten drunk and fell into the creek and drowned. I, for one, wished they had kept that scene in the show.

Watching you examine the picture on the broadsheet. “That does not look like Jamie” Fergus’ voice is deeper because it was a year between filming S2 when we last saw him. Okay, YUM is right!! That scene of Claire imagining Jamie by the fire and he smiles and starts to come closer to her. HELLO!!! So freaking sexy! 😍 Seeing Jamie like this is so sad. He is just so broken without Claire. Sam spent time training with an archer, a butcher and a fish monger for this episode to make his hunting look more realistic. I love it when Ian was so pleasant to the Redcoats so he wouldn’t give them any reason to hold him longer. When Fergus had his hand cut off and Jamie couldn’t do anything to stop it, but Jamie knew what to do because of Claire. When Jamie broke down in Jenny’s arms, that always gets me. “There you are Milord” Fergus saw the look in Jamie’s eyes that he hadn’t seen in years because he’s been just a shell of a man. Ha! You beat Ian with that great metaphor that you mentioned about Jamie losing a limb. I was like “just watch, Ian will say the same thing”😉 Claire was his heart and he’s lost his heart. Jamie has just been existing in that cave for all this time. When Mary told Jamie he could look at her and he told her it was something that he always did with a tear streaming down his face as he kissed her with his eyes closed. No Jamie, that is not something you always do 🥲 Yep, that’s how it was in the late 40’s and early 50’s with regards to the professor. When my mom graduated from high school in 1957, there were very limited choices if a woman wanted to work: Teacher, Nurse, Secretary, Librarian. “Women’s work” My grandparents told my mom she was going to be a nurse so she went to nursing school and then joined the Peace Corps and took care of villagers in Malaysia where she met my Dad. Yep, they stopped sharing a bed, but the way they filmed it made it look like one bed until we see both of them. When Jamie and Jenny played out that scene at the end like he was just coming home to get arrested and pretended to be upset, when Jenny yelled to Jamie “I’ll never forgive you, never” you see the look on Jamie’s face as they’re loading him in the truck and I think he believes that part of her “performance” was how she was really feeling. I think the title “Surrender” is both figurative and literal. Jamie obviously surrendered to keep his family safe from the redcoats and Claire is surrendering to her circumstances. Man, Sam was so amazing in this episode, it just kills me to see them apart. Claire believes Jamie is dead and Jamie knew that he’d never see Claire again when he sent her through the stones. 😭😭

2022-07-25 19:57:16 +0000 UTCYes... it's appalling that these men, who are there to learn how to save lives, are so cruel, uncompassionate, & just plain bigots.

2022-07-25 18:51:00 +0000 UTCI just love your reactions ! Maybe because your reactions are very close from mines ! The tears came into my eyes when Claire arrives to start the medicine class, and with the freaking professor talking shirt about her and Joe Abernathy...sexism, racism and all sort of hate and disrespect for a part of humanity is just so painful to watch...Can't wait to see you dig more into this season ;) xxx

2022-07-25 16:17:55 +0000 UTC...Evie realizing it was six years of Jamie missing Clare... A broken heart, (officially), of such an empathetic reactor, is a sad sight to see (truly, officially). Another reaction high point here: "No... No... No... What the F_ck! They cut his hand. (Mouth wide open) Oh my fu_king God!" And when Fergus says: "There! You are my Lord" Evie wells up - just a little. Continuing, when Jamie confirms he would always take care of Fergus for the rest of his life, Fergus says: "I have always trusted you my Lord" - Evie mouths the word "Stop" and holds back the tears. Then gasps at Fergus' iconic line: "I've become a man of leisure." Then from the sublime, to the outrageous!!! - "Frank, if only you knew how good it was... you would be with him too!" (EYE ROLL) "Okay!" - Yes, Evie, Actually Says That! Finally, the revelation about Clare being Jamie's metaphorical amputation the same as Ian's missing leg, or Fergus' now missing hand. "Clare was your HEART" - "She really was." It ends with Jamie captured, Jenny in pain ...as the single bagpipe drones... This episode is great much the way nearly every episode of the entire series is great... BUT THIS REACTION... WAS VERY SPECIAL INDEED.
